This just feels unreal. We sent alphabet goons after FIFA? I just don't know man.

:usacry I expect them all to escape on snowmobiles with submachine guns.

Just announced they are being charged for Racketeering under the RICO act. Also, evidence has been found that the 2016 Copa America had $110 Million worth of bribes and the 2010 World Cup voting process was particularly influenced by bribes. Tons of dirty money between CONCACAF and CONMEBOL including bribes from executives of a "Major American Sportswear company"

This is pretty tasty :whew

UEFA is now calling for a postponement of the presidential election and holding an emergency meeting tomorrow. They may boycott the election if it goes ahead.

Wonder how far Platini will go to save his own skin when people start asking about how things like Euro 2012 happened

I saw a pretty great E:60 report on FIFA corruption over the weekend. Kind of stunning to see this all go down just a few days later.

Nah, Platini and Blatter are done.  You think there's not a 5 star hotel's worth of corrupt motherfuckers who aren't willing to save their skin?  Also this is a RICO case, so every company that does business with FIFA (especially banks) are going to do whatever it takes to make sure Blatter takes the brunt.

Platini and Blatter are going to come out of this just fine. There'll be an endless gang of people to fall under the bus before either (Image removed from quote.)

Sure, they ain't goin' to be doing time in the EU's best white collar prisons in Sweden. At the same time, this shit looks far too deep to get out of and FIFA's reputation as a whole is fucked (Same with any of the confederations, really). They will have to fall on their swords and depart to the Cayman Islands where they can sniff viagra tabs off hookers butts or whatever they were doing with the FIFA money before.

what's the international reaction to the fact that its America's criminal enforcement going after FIFA?

I mean, the dirty shit aint exactly new, anybody could have pulled the trigger on this before, right? Is this an unwanted or welcomed action by the USA or is it something else?

Some British footballers were happy about it, but that was just two guys on Twitter, so I don't know if the good feelings extend beyond that.

Presidential vote is today. So far in hilarious FIFA bullshit

- Brazil's reps GTFO of Zurich before they could also be arrested so Brazil won't be represented in the vote
- A Bunch of UEFA countries like England, Germany and France are threatening to pull out of the 2018 World Cup in protest
- Britain's Serious Fraud Office is now investigating "Serious Material" in its possession regarding FIFA corruption
- Former vice president Jack Warner, one of the arrested individuals was taken away from Prison in an Ambulance after paying up bail. He was spotted dancing at a party later on that night

The ride never ends  :whew

I read something about the Dutch thinking of leaving the fifa with a few others (and thus the world cup) and starting something new

A fair chunk of UEFA is considering a boycott of WC 2018 over the corruption. Even with the arrests it was a done deal that Blatter was going to be re-elected. The fallout of the arrests was always going to be the more interesting long term part.

Also Blatter is now claiming that it's all a US and English conspiracy to force him to leave since they were "Bitter" over losing the 2018 and 2022 world cup hosting.  :sabu

If you're gonna boycott a world cup, probably makes sense to boycott the one where probably somewhere in the five figures of people will have died to build stadiums and infrastructure, so might as well wait until 2022.

Not to dismiss the human rights abuses involved in the Qatar World Cup, but you're off by a magnitude of ten. About two thousand migrant workers have died so far with double that projected by 2022.

And Russia isn't exactly a shining beacon of moral righteousness these days. There have been over 6,000 deaths in the Ukrainian conflict so far.

Listen, I'm not sure we can believe that Qatar is going to give us an accurate portrayal of how many people they're gonna murder to get stadiums built; THEY estimate 5,000 by the end, but that seems like it's probably low if it's THEIR estimate. Just sayin.

Can anyone explain to me how FIFA World Cup location voting is supposed to work without clientelism? Ideally, why would, for example, Saudi Arabia vote for Germany otherwise? I guess what I'm asking is what does an ethical FIFA look like?
