Real talk: That was the right play call.

Dez 1 on 1 with any cornerback in the league on a fly pattern is a recipe for success. As you witnessed. I mean honestly that was a catch and reach. I hate that damn megatron rule so damn much.

To go a bit deeper: It's hard to contain a guy who's 6+ with big hands, speed, and great vertical coordination. Maybe 3 guys in the league could have defended that play.

Haden would have forced him to jump towards the sidelines, Petersen can hang height and power wise, and Revis would have undercut him and swatted the ball. And none of those 3 could do that 100% of the time. And before you say it Sherman would have been toast.

Punish a guy for being coordinated enough to catch and reach brehs.

It may have been the right read(single coverage) but I bet there was a shorter route that would have had a higher completion percentage.
Regardless, I would have run the ball. I'm a Monday morning OC and I can speculate these things.

I mean there is definitely some merit to what you're saying. It would not have hurt to control the clock because A Rog was in his "I won't miss a pass" mode from the last quarter and a half.

But seeing Green Bay stack the box and seeing Dez outside you just know a guy like Romo is licking his chops. Just get the ball anywhere near him against a 4.0 tier cornerback.

I would have grabbed him and got a PI for sure.

It's a stupid rule that logically makes no sense. He clearly caught the ball and made a football move. To make matters more asinine, he's being punished for making a football move when the rules demand you do something along those lines.

Dez had clear possession. And yall know I hate Dallas after what happened to the Lions. But that's a shit rule that has fucked us many times.

What really steams me is how a catch is defined. Does the motherfucker end up on the ground with the ball in his hands after being thrown to, without the ball clearly hitting the ground in the act? It's a fucking catch.

These dudes are paid to do amazing things to make sure the ball ends up in their hands After the play, no matter what. Don't penalize them for using their talents to the best of their ability.

Other side of the coin though is that we already reward the fuck out of the QB and receivers. Changing this rule just rewards them even further. What they SHOULD BE doing is pocketing their flags on PI instances, and getting rid of the illegal contact penalty. Let men battle for these catches goddamit.

Given how few times this rule becomes a major issue I don't think it gives offenses an advantage, especially when compared to all the other stuff offenses get away with on a game by game basis (PI). If someone catches a ball, they call the damn ball. Dez made an amazing play.

The NFL should be ashamed. Every year there's a major fuck up. There's no damn reason the NFL doesn't have full time referees outside of greed; they don't want to pay them full time/benefits/etc. You shouldn't get to be a part time ref - your job should be to learn the fucking rules, attend seminars, etc.
