No one. Sometimes hold it for a moment, but as they get close then let go and walk away.

I think it's pretty much a given if you don't hold doors for the elderly or crippled you probably should have never been brought to term though. I assume we're all at that level

I bet we're not. A lot of buttholes hang out in this joint.

this is a build off from the other thread but there is nothing better than increasing your pace well ahead of a group of individuals (ideally with one male of adult age in a mix of numerous females) so you have the opportunity to out chivalry them by holding the door. :lawd

bonus points if you do it outside of the acceptable door holding range, forcing the male of the party to rapidly shift to the perimeter of the door holding range and take responsibility for door holding duty or else suffer significant devaluation of his masculinity :lawd

operate with superficial kindness to others while stroking a semi of sociopathic manipulation :lawd

Last year my friend got chewed out by an 80 year old man with two canes because my friend tried to open the door for the geezer coming out of Tims.  I'll hold doors for the elderly and the cripples but if you're both I'm not risking it.

Yes but it goes a bit far when you start wearing tear away pants and treating the door dash as a 100 meter.

oh man that reminded me of my old reverse-following game where you drive in front of a car, watch for their turn signals, and turn down every lane they do. works best in rural areas.

that's why you select your targets well in advance and know their routine to maximize the intended effect.

Honestly the worst is apartment main doors when you can't tell if the person lives there or is just a burglar.  They I have to hurry in and pretend I don't see you just so I can make sure the door shuts before you get there.

Its a way of giving back to society by doing almost nothing at all. You're a semi hero for two seconds. Fuck the concept of superheroes, there are enough doors on this planet that someone is holding a door open for somebody while we post. Somebody it putting a tiny bit of effort to be gracious and they're being thanked, this might be happening every 10 seconds. Its favorable for all cultures and religions.

The people that despise door openers truly are lost souls, trapped in their own hellish rooms and they're not willing to open the door for themselves.

1) open door/assume door holding responsibilities from the last person to open door

2) glance back
-no one's there, relinquish door-holding responsibility and resume walking
-potential door-users are approaching and within 15 feet, wait approximately .5 seconds to pass the proverbial torch

eventually you'll reach a point when these steps are one fluid movement

you are also allowed to hold doors regardless of whether you are a user or not if you assess a potential door-user to be a challenged door-holder (i.e. carrying objects with all available hands, etc.) and if the door system in question is not accommodated with an automatic door opener (but you're not gonna lose points if you hold the door open for disabled individuals even though the system is accommodated)

while that is reasonable advice, and I appreciate the analytical nature of your post, it is important to scan the surrounding areas for men who are at least one social standing below your own in at least two categories (appearance, wealth, charisma, height, etc). when you have found one of these men, meet their gaze, and give them a indication that you are willing to relinquish unto them the role of door holder.

it is important to select men that are below you in social standing, as by the law of masculinity, they will recognize your superiority and desperately try to raise their own value by occupying the role you are currently serving in society.

this is of course a worthless attempt as these disgusting, limp, and destitute excuses for men will never be as good as you.

Oh, I always hold the main doors to apartments open for strangers. If they are axe murderers they will find their way in eventually with or without your help, and they might look favorably upon your politeness enough to spare you.

That's a positive attitude that fails for arsonists.

I did one time let in a chick who was clearly a call girl and one of the hotest chicks I've ever seen.

The only two points are:
  • Don’t enter one and then stop, sealing in the people in the opposite compartment.
  • Don’t shove passing-by pedestrians into them.

Beware of door hazards fellow gentlemen.

I opened the door for a girl coming into my building today then promptly walked into it while admiring how keenly she was able to wear a skirt. And of course she turned around just in time to see my staggered by said door while still keeping my eyes on the prize.

Then I realized she's waiting to see me for a sales appointment in about 3 minutes....durp. Now I have to buy something.

Edit: Meeting went fine. I actually needed some of the lines she represented.

I got caught in a man trap a few weeks ago by clearly disregarding an 6'x6' sign that said you must receive a badge from security to activate the second door.

Just another black dude caught in between locked doors I guess

:yeshrug

For those of you unfamiliar...this is a man trap

Where as "unsecured door" locks right after you get in it.

Today I was going into the gym, and there were two girls about ten feet behind me. I held the door open for them, and one of them have me a really weird look :brazilcry
this is what happens when you execute poor field awareness. the targets should have been spotted well before they were approaching the zone of engagement, thus allowing you ample time to strategically position yourself.
