I need to re-read LOTR. There was a time when even the most minor differences in the film stood out to me. Now everything is a blur. But thank god the film threw Tom Bombadil in the bushes.

Yea the dwarves were sort of like Japanese porn writers. They were so preoccupied with whether they could, that they never stopped to think if they should.

Sort of a side note but I think this is one of the best dismissals of knee jerk Tolkien imitation, and a fascinating tip on writing in general; his entire 4 minute spiel. Write what you know. The whole video is cool if you're into nerdy shit.
