post some games you bought and discuss game shopping

last night I went to a used media place and got:
-King's Field: The Ancient City PS2 (complete, $25)
-Drakan: The Ancient Gate PS2 (complete, $7)
-Sin and Punishment 2 wii (complete, $15)
-Gunblade + LA Machine Guns wii (complete, $8)

kind of a rip for Sin and Punishment, could've paid a few more for a new one from amazon, oh well.  I'm excited to try out gunblade/la machine guns.  looks like quality Sega cheesy goodness.

King's Field: The Ancient City is great, though the turn speed takes some getting used to.
Drakan: The Ancient Gate is OK, but kinda poopy compared to the first, even though it's expanded in many ways. Combat is a complete chore.

Some more pickups. Whomp Em is a weird game - they took a game blatantly based off of Journey to the West and replaced Sun Wukong with some racist Native American stereotype. The music still sounds very Chinese in feel and there are bamboo forests so they didn't even bother to change much aside from adding a feather to the lead character and changing his pole to a spear. Game seems to be pretty decent.

This is the only photo I have of a 'recent' game-related purchase-- an ASUS MX279H 27" IPS monitor.  Got this in December.

I've been using it for my currently hooked up consoles (PS3, PS4, and Wii U) and keep thinking I should hook my PC up to it, too, but the 23" ASUS I have it hooked up to works great. (The laptop on the right is hooked up to the TV and is used for watching videos)

We're in the market to buy a place, so I'm going to be changing stuff around soon enough anyway.  I'm going to have my own game room again when that happens and plan on using the three PC monitors I have, small HDTV, and old Samsung GXTV in there to hook everything I have up.  The larger HDTV would stay in the living room, which would be a video game-free zone apart from playing emulators and stuff on a PC that gets hooked up to it.  Going house-hunting tomorrow!  :hyper

Recent purchases for me have been mostly digital.  I got Resident Evil HD and Saint's Row Gat Outta Hell several weeks ago.  Have barely touched either one.  Got Duke Nukem on PS3/Vita.  Got a physical copy of Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 on Vita last week but I'm not going to play it until I finish the original, which I'm about halfway through.

Waiting on Sengoku Musou 4-II next week and then DOA5 Last Round the week after.  I think Dragon Quest Heroes is the week after that...crazy Koei-related releases starting once again.

That is bizarre.   :lol  Why even change the character then?

sorry for the shitty pic.  not even taken with a potato, but a One M8.  i'm just the worst digital photo taker ever.

Killer 7 PS2 - complete, $10.  Not sure why I bought this, I have the gamecube one on the way.
Trauma Team Wii - complete, $12.  Disc is a bit scratchy and it needs an original wii case, but $12 is somewhat under average for the game compared to online prices.
Baroque Wii (not pictured) - disc only, $3 at gamestop.  The clerk at gamestop could not stop gushing about how bad this game is. She bought it because she thought it would be like Persona ???

The next 4 - see OP

on the bottom, a brand new PS2 from Amazon themselves, not a third party.  Randomly looked up PS2s and they had one for sale for $100, which is good these days (most guys have them at $150ish shipped.)  I thought it might be a fucked up package that looked like it had been through war, but it's a perfect, sealed 90001 box.  It'll fit in my closet nicely.

yeah, that's about a 1/4 of the going price for fire emblem.  about 1/2 for Xenosaga 3.  I'll play Xenosaga for sure.   would be sick if I got the lenticular cover Xenosaga 3.

Amazon warehouse usually has stupid high prices these days on collectible games.

Catching up.  Here's all the physical games I purchased over the last few months.

Just noticed that everything is Japanese, with the exception of Diablo.  Will likely be getting rid of Diablo and Akiba's Trip, since I don't really care about Diablo and the Vita Akiba is enough.  Was disappointed that the PS4 version doesn't have everything unlocked from the start, like they claimed.

Other stuff.  The ASUS Transformer T200 was a birthday present for my wife.  Tried one of the New 3DS faceplates (Smash Bros. version) and also got the latest Kotobukiya Bishoujo Tekken figure for some more uguu~.

Is that a Oneechanbara PS4 game?  Didn't know there was one.  I came close to buying the wii version the past few times i've been out because it looks like trashy fun for only a few bucks a copy.

The quality of the plastic on the cover plates feels better than the stock cover plates do.  Also didn't know that this was glossy versus the stock being matte.  Looks nice!

Yeah, that's Oneechanbara Kagura Z2, the 'sequel' to the PS3 Oneechanbara Kagura Z2 With NoNoNo, although from what I played, it seems more like "Oneechanbara Z2 Champion Edition Turbo Without NoNoNo."  Assets are reused and some of the same levels are in there, just at 1080P and 60 FPS now.  You get up to four characters that you can switch between and get huge combos with.  The game play is better than previous games, but it still feels like a cheap, overpriced budget title.  I also don't get why NoNoNo was removed.  She's one of the characters from those stupid Dream Club idol games and is more of a joke character.  One of her attacks makes the zombies dance, thriller-style.  Anyway, Senran Kagura is a much better take on this genre.

If you did want to try one of these games, get NoNoNo on PS3 or the PS4 version (note- physical only...if you try to buy the game off PSN, you will be required to have a Japanese credit card for age verification!), but Senran Kagura Estival Versus is out next month on Vita/PS4 and it's going to blow this game away in pretty much every area.

Air Fortress is cool- part shmup, part metroid.  slowly gets more difficult until it gets wtf mazelike.  Legacy of the Wizard is like Milon's Secret Castle levels of hitting a random block in a random place to do a thing that you never would have guessed, except worse because the map is gigantic and there are a bunch of characters to use.  Good game, but infamously convoluted.

my least favorite things to see when shopping for used games online:

"may or may not have case or instructions"

"may or may not have scratches on disc or wear on case/manual"

how about you just take two seconds to look at the game motherfucker and maybe your shit won't sit there for months unsold

I got some GB cib pickups from some game store in downtown Newark. 4 white kids walking through Newark isn't something you'd see every day, but hey, when there's retro games to be had... I picked up Quarth, Kwirk: The Chiller Tomato (Atlus game published in the US by Acclaim), and Revenge of the Gator, and also a copy of Golden Axe 2.

o god you poor dumb sob. for a while back in the day I used to convince myself that reviewers just didn't understand horror games bc of the low scores they always got. Rule of Rose was the game that finally made me stop and say "nope; some of these games are just really bad." game is total shit with zero redeeming qualities. I usually finish every game I start but I couldn't make it anywhere near the end in that turd.

My PS3 collection is almost done.

My PS3 collection looks pretty small compared to my PS1 and PS2 collections.  It's shrinking now that games are going multiplat and getting Vita/PS4 ports.  Would like to build it up a bit but there's really nothing I want to get for it at this point.
