Remember that time Maher made a movie about how shitty religion is, and then last year when Israel bombed the shit out of the Gaza Strip last year he was like "well they have their reasons, don't jump to conclusions guys!"? Good times

Bill Maher is a bit like the television equivalent of the New Yorker or Pitchfork. The actual content ranges from :trash to mildly entertaining but at the end of the day it only exists to help you enjoy the rich piquancy of your own farts

What's the Bill Maher segment equivalent of Pitchfork's MBDTF review?

The new guy isn't that funny to be honest but the outrage over his jokes is garbage. He can say whatever the fuck he wants. People just don't understand that just because they take offence to something, doesn't mean a person doesn't have the right to say it.

Cruz fails the punchable test to me because I can totally imagine him smugly wiping his bloody lip off and either calling the cops or lecturing you on how MLK would disapprove of your violence. A punch to the face would be a W for him, not me.

Whereas this guy passes the punchable test because I can totally imagine him falling to pieces, crying, etc...and never telling anyone.

I think we can all agree that James O'Keefe is pretty high on the list:

I wonder why James O'Keefe wasn't considered for the Daily Show host gig.

Not that mr. Cruz isn't punchable,  but his punchability, much like Mahers is more a result of his actions than any outstanding facial punchability. If I were to rate faces based on how much they attract fists moving at high speeds, I'd rate Ted Cruz as a 'cantankerous passive aggressive dad at a little league baseball game' out of ten , whereas Seann William Scott is like a 'oblivion character creator product designed to have the most annoying possible resting face' out of ten.

Sean William Scott is punchable, Ted Cruz is chokeable; I’d love to get a front guillotine on the guy.

Samantha Bee doing a Daily Show type thing?

As for details of Bee’s new show, those are still being worked out, she says.

“It’s definitely a show, hosted by me, that will be mostly current events-based,” she says cryptically.

“If you’ve enjoyed my work on The Daily Show, there will be something tonally similar, I would say. A continuation of the things I like to do.”

The timeslot has yet to be determined, she adds, but she doesn’t rule out the possibility of late night: “Let’s call it a late-night show, for now.”

“I’m super-excited about that, I’m really ready for a breath of fresh air in that world,” she says, noting few female hosts have been able to break into that domain.
