This is almost like the opposite of The Order-- I expected this to get trashed, but it's reviewing decently, looks like shit, but from all accounts plays well.  Will probably get it now.

I got Resident Evil Revelations 2 on PC.  It initially ran like total shit, but like RE HD Remaster, I had to go into the Nvidia control panel and set it to always use my graphics card and not the integrated option.  It still chugged and I fixed this by...turning UP the detail settings!?  Yup.  Putting vsync on and setting it to 60 FPS fixed pretty much all the problems.  I was then able to turn up other details and turn on AA and the like.

Played through the first chapter.  This game really doesn't feel like a Resident Evil title to me so far.  I'm getting this budget The Last Of Us and Tomb Raider 2013 vibe from the game.  Not only are the evironments kind of similar, but you even head to a radio tower, just like in TR.  I like the first Revelations way more than this game right now.

I'm just not impressed with this game at all. I was able to run through 95% of the first chapter without even bothering with the enemies. There's no reason to fight them and there's only one situation where you need to be dealing with them to proceed. So you wind up just running around looking at shit. People are saying Raid mode is where it's at. OK...will try that after I do Barry's chapter.

So... 0-3 then? Nice. Interest peaked.

Raid mode is boring, if the first Revelations is anything to go by. :/

I liked Raid Mode in Revelations.  It was better than the story mode.  :P

Raid Mode in Revelations 2 has more enemy variety but I was again feeling kind of "meh" on the whole thing.  The first level is recycled from RE6, IIRC.

Isn't this how the old games were?  I remember running past most enemies to conserve ammo.

It's different when the level structure is basically linear and the only thing to really "accomplish" is killing dudes.

What Kick said.  There's really nothing else to do.  The entire first level is literally WALK WALK WALK OH THERE'S A KEY OH SHIT MONSTERS RUN RUN RUN RUN ESCAPE THE END.  I see that there's Raid mode rewards for beating the story levels without dying, using herbs, and killing all of the enemies, at least.  Gives you a reason to fight if you care to.

I want to buy the full version but Sony didn't send my $15 voucher for spending $100 like they were supposed to by the end of yesterday.   and on top of that, no PS+ games announced for today.

I think it might be one of those weeks where sony just doesn't update on tuesday.

got my code and bought the season.  Played the first episode last night and dug it.  Claire and Moira's part was pretty tight, Barry's part was pretty boring due to a complete lack of enemies.

but Raid Mode is and always will be the shit

Played through both episodes. What's the point of the partner system exactly? I only use them to open chests/crates and had Natalia point at those invisible monsters a few times. I rarely have to assist them, they just stand there, take some damage while I shoot off enemies. I'm not saying it should been turned into an escort mission, but they could have impacted the game a little bit more.

i play as the partners on point when i'm not in a fight, just to uncover hidden items.  It feels grindy in that TLOU scavenging way, but thankfully these episodes are short.  Like every RE game since 4, they're there because that's what 4 did.  No reason why a single player couldn't have all those skills, outside of the game lore or whatever.  Natalia is a drag, though all the enemies barry fights are balanced around her.  There are at least some interesting combat set ups with Moira and the alan wake flashlight.

I feel 4 did the whole escort thing pretty well. There was a strategic element in managing Ashley most of the time. This is doing it for the sake of doing it. I also don't like the backtracking you do with Barry, but I understand it's due to how cheap the game is. I agree that Episode 2 is better and the preview for episode 3 looks cool.

Gonna dig into Raid mode tonight.

This.

They seem to have felt the need to make every RE following 4 involve two characters at a time.  I don't think it's necessary in every single game.

finished Claire's side of ep.3

shit was awesome, the best yet, though the sewers dragged on.

so, this is gonna end up being a 16-ish hour game for $25 without even counting Raid Mode?  or maybe I'm spending too much time looking for collectibles.  My first time through each character's campaign for an ep is about 2 hours.

stun stuff on enemies can be finnicky

that good ending was pretty hype.  they've been trying to do the self-aware corny humor since 4 but they finally nailed it with this game.

ok, The Struggle on survival is showing how janky this game can be.  particularly around corners + different elevations.  Sometimes sneaking up on revenants just doesn't work and you randomly get caught--which happened in the main chapters, but here it means insta-death. still fun as hell, but some flaws get magnified when the game gets as difficult as it does in this chapter + this difficulty.  Having permadeath under your ass is pretty crazy, wasn't expecting that.

Finally beat the Struggle on survival.  so many dumb deaths.  once again, fuck edges and corners and enemies who magically warp around them/attack through them.  This is the jankiest game I've loved in a long time.
