Americans using a peace dividend on social welfare, especially a kind that reaches more segments of society than WASPs. :heh

This is a gift that will keep on giving brehs. It's like Thanksgiving, the leftovers will be better than the first meal.

1. Ron Paul's inevitable response
2. Ron Paul fanatics explaining why this isn't racist/why we're the real racists
3. Rand Paul being forced to choose between throwing his dad in the bushes or catering to dead enders.
4. Elected officials defending him (slim but possible)

Ron Paul's mental battle between isolationist foreign policy libertarian and embarrassing racist uncle at Thanksgiving was less of a fight than many people would believe.

To be fair, saying blacks would prefer a Great Society to war would also sound bad.  Why he didn't go somewhere in the middle we'll never know.

He didn't say those things, they just came out of an organ that he owns and put his name on.

Besides the military industrial complex likes to get blacks because they're fleet of foot.

Dunno about hating blacks, but the only RP supporter I know hates jews and believes that they control the world or whatever. I didn't think anyone, in the states at least, still felt this way

I can't wait until SERIOUS candidate RAND PAUL starts to get questions about his racist nutter of a dad.  It was ok when Ron Paul was a fringe candidate for bitter internet losers and people who think legalization is an issue worthy of overriding any other political belief, but shit aint going to fly for a SERIOUS Republican nominee.

Do we have any good political dynasties? The Adamses are the closest I can think of and that's not really saying much. (No benji, but the Roosevelts are *rasberry*.)

He was promoted to the Office of the Fourth Protocol for the Mahoz of Washington D.C. by the Elders. It's a very demanding job.

Nationally, not really outside of the Bushes, but at the state and local levels there are plenty. (Mayor of Chicago for example.)

Udalls, Harrisons, Tafts, Romneys, Doles, Rockefellers all have had decent runs. Chafees, Gores, Cuomos.

The original Clintons: George, DeWitt and George.

Another limpwristed accusation of racism?  Damn, it must have been one of those days of the week ending in y.

"Why do these neo-confederates keep showing up at my states' rights rallies?!"

Neo-confederates are kinda interesting actually. They actually have all those disputes and stuff most fringe/hardline ideological groups have. That swing from just weird Southern Pride to Civil War Fetishism to plain ol racism to actual states rights only people to the "Lost Causers". There were a couple books about them a few years back that were interesting in delving into it.

The actual movement that is, not the neo-conservative like epithet. The original neo-confederate movement was a 1880s one by people who were growing up during and shortly after the Civil War and they had actual publications and such calling for re-fighting it. But the movement died off to almost nothing for a long while before this kind of Southern Pride/Lost Cause thing rehabilitated it in the 1960s. The modern movement has gotten swept up into general nationalism anti-foreigners stuff. Though the original one supported immigration restrictions because most foreigners fought for the Union.

Why should your son or daughter attend the Sam Davis Youth Camp?

In a survey conducted by the Center for Survey Research and Analysis in 2000, 65% of college seniors failed to pass a high school equivalent American history test:

Only 23% correctly identified James Madison as the "Father of the Constitution." Yet, 98% knew that "Snoop Doggy Dog" is a rapper.
Just over half, 52% knew that George Washington's Farewell Address warned against establishing permanent alliances with foreign governments. Yet, 99% correctly identified Beavis & Butthead.

This was in the related and made me laugh:

Wait, does Levin like Lincoln for conducting the Civil War, or for him suspending habeus corpus?

Also funny that he complains about people who don't know what they're talking about cause they have no history degrees, even though he doesn't have one himself (he's got one in poli sci).

I wonder if this story would be getting more mainstream traction if Bill O'Reilly's career wasn't slowly imploding at present.

Bill O isn't going anywhere. The right never apologizes for anything because an apology is an acknowledgement of wrong doing. The typical defense is to attack which is what he is doing now. If he does step down, he'll just go on radio.

Do you think Ron Paul is mad that of the seemingly crazy anachronisms floated in recent years a viable Islamic Caliphate is happening and the gold standard is still mocked by pretty much everyone?

Internet providers might be the only group more universally loathed than congress, so it only makes sense the Republicans would side with them.

When people see how much more they pay for so much less than other countries, they take notice. Everyone hates getting ripped off.

US reactions to "socialized European medicine" would suggest otherwise...
