Mayweather is a great fighter. He is also coma inducing for me because of his defensive style. It's why I prefer to watch MMA nowadays. Basically Manny seemed to run out of gas about halfway through the fight.

As someone who paid 200 Euros for the stream, I must say I'm pretty happy with how it went down even if nobody went down, know'm saying? This is NOT me trying to justify paying absurd prices for a live stream that runs in 480p - this is the god of boxing speaking though me and agreeing that this was a great match.

In the 80s middleweights around 150 to 160 and even lower provided amazing fighters with lots of different styles.

The problem for me is strictly Mayweather or more accurately, super technical defensive fighters. It's all just really boring. I can appreciate it in an academic way and its not his fault but his style is just utterly boring unless you are a hardcore boxing nerd.

To me this felt like the last gasp of big time boxing. Now that this fight is done and in the books, I go back to not caring about boxing until the next big fight in 30 years just before I die.

It's sad because I grew up loving boxing, but the sport is so fucked in its future prognosis imo.

Wouldn't having more brutal fights reduce the "safe" number of major fights a boxer could endure before retiring? I'm guessing that's why each event already costs so much to view and the ppv aspect is already a big issue for boxings popularity.

Effective aggression was nonexistant. The pace was set by Mayweather, Pac failed to keep it up aside from the few he managed to stick. The rest of the rounds the dude was hitting air or glove which amount to shit aside from making casual fans scream.

so that fight was pretty much exactly what everyone predicted. Fifth Rd. manny seemed to have floyd more gassed than any opponent in recent memory, but then floyd went on to deliver his typical boxing clinic. no boxing isnt an over the top brawl, and floyd knows he loses a brawl. he takes manny to the center of the ring and jabs him in the face for 12 Rds. the end.

There are definitely a lot of reddit types who wanted that distinguished black fellow to get his ass kicked and any result that wasn't that invokes their inner closet bigot. I also do think for a casual person who was only pulled in because of the hype, it probably was a generally boring experience.

I like mma more than boxing but its also annoying to see mma fans mock such a fight when its pretty easy for high level mma to also turn into a relatively boring wrestle-fuck situation.

If only our true savior Manny would have been able to conquer the evil giant we could have been saved but Pac was just too scared that the Brutal Thug Mayweather would have destroyed his whole family in retaliation if he would have landed a punch. The Thug might have even sent his crony, the Burger King, after poor Pac's relatives.

It's unfortunate that Sweet Manny only walked away with $100 million but it shouldn't be surprising that the Evil Thug Mayweather would use such Forceful Negro Tactics to rob an innocent gentleman. :'(

I think the better distinction is hardcore versus casual. Casuals of anything want more action. More immediate gratification. Hardcore fans might want more action but they also understand or at least willing to tolerate less action because of the strategy involved.

For a casual that probably wasn't a very entertaining fight.Some hardcore fans may not have found it a very entertaining fight, but they understand at least that Mayweather won the boxing match.

as a casual, i thought it was interesting how mayweather basically set the parameters of engagement each round and challenged pac to break them, and he never really did. dude just ran up and tried to pummel over and over again, and near the end je starting throwing wild hail mary haymakers.

not sure why you'd expect an undefeated champ to climb out of his castle and fight his competitor on their terms. dude was just outstrategized for basically 12 rounds while floyd got a nice cardio workout

Really? The boxing nerds I know have been saying that last sentence for ages now. Everyone I've known who was been excited for this fight either hadn't actually watched Mayweather fight or just forgot that he's usually pretty unexciting to watch. The thing that's defined his success, being incredibly defensive and picking every one of his shots, is inherently kind of dull.

One thing that might make boxing more exciting is if the booking wasn't so god awful. The undercards here are a perfect example of how this shit is a joke. Showtime didn't even have a picture for one of the dudes on their website. Shit, the announcers themselves told you who was jobbing for who before the matches even started. But hey, why give people anything remotely exciting when you can give your latest signee an easy win before the biggest match in decades? Embarrassing. No wonder MMA is eating their audiences for breakfast.
