f.lux saved my life
« on: February 27, 2015, 07:12:02 PM »
I try not to stare at a monitor before I go to bed but sometimes I just can't help it.

I'm shocked how well getting rid of blue colors allows you to relax before sleep. It's not just the computer activity but also the blue shit that keeps you wide awake and screws up your melatonin or whatever that shit is called.

It's so useful it should come with every operating system as standard although I doubt Microsoft will get on that shit because they fucking suck.

But yeah.

Fuck blue light. :pacspit

Hmmm, never heard of this.  So removing blue colors from your monitor makes you sleepy?

I go both ways. Sometimes I love it. Sometimes I hate it. I often find myself uninstalling and re-installing it.

Yeah I know but I'm a weirdo. If I have it installed I tend to use it all the time. So to overcome that mental block I find myself uninstalling it. Or maybe I have to do a windows install and just never put it back on for awhile.

I would have f.lux on every device I own if I could.

There's an android app called Twilight which does something similar but it's not as good

Hmmm, never heard of this.  So removing blue colors from your monitor makes you sleepy?

Blue light limits the production of the hormone responsible for making you sleepy. Red light has no such effects.

Evolution at work. We had campfires--red light--on during the nights during our early days as a species in Africa. Blue light was not naturally occurring at night.

I used to get a lot of eye fatigue at work looking at monitors all day. This cured it. :rejoice

Oh yeah I forgot to mention some people actually wear this shit

http://www.amazon.com/Uvex-S1933X-Eyewear-SCT-Orange-Anti-Fog/dp/B000USRG90/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425157888&sr=8-1&keywords=blue+light+blocking+glasses

To basically achieve the same thing f.lux does but with everything you see by wearing dem shits. It seems a bit drastic but I guess it could work if you use too many things that might keep you awake.

Work out before bed. :holeup

This is good for TVs since they don't red shift yet.

I remember people here and on GAF suggesting this year's ago. I'm going to finally dl it tomorrow. Too bad it won't also fix my eye sight. I used to have perfect vision but years of staring at screens and numbers have hurt it. I don't need glasses but jeez...not being able to read signs from x away is annoying.

Yeah, I get that too after a day of staring at screen (and then continuing on because I'm a fucking troglodyte). We should take breaks every hour and look out the window our something, but I never do it.
