Uh, bro, Ali was probably the best defensive fighter of all time. Watch his fights again.

Just because he doesn't conform to your niche idea of counter defense techniques doesn't mean he isn't better than anyone you listed.

I would say Ali had three traits that will never be surpassed by another fighter.

1) His ability to predict when and where a punch were going were leaps beyond anyone who ever laced them up.

2) His conditioning (especially prior to prison time) was something you'll never see a man that size do again.

3) He had the fastest left flick jab I have ever seen.

Well these and he was also the greatest self promoter in sports history.

You're ignoring facts again.

Go watch the Thrilla in Manilla again. There isn't a heavyweight in history that could have done what he did.  Also Rocky, love the guy but get the fuck out. Ali danced for 15 rounds.

Yeah, and guys like Rocky moved forward throwing nothing but power punches and taking hits to go forward and pinned guys down for 15 as a cruiserweight, and Jack Johnson / Jim Jeffries / any heavy before 1930 etc fought out in the open sun in the middle of a southern summer for 20+ etc. I'm just saying, if we're talking about fighters having conditioning meaning endurance, or fighters that could move and avoid for 15+, Muhammad Ali simply isn't alone in that category.

There is no category.

There is Ali

Then there is a large blank space

Then there is everybody else.

Man what I wouldn't pay to see Prime Ali beat Prime Tyson up.   :tocry

Stanning? Ali is the best heavyweight of all time by some margin according to the entire WORLD, not just me.

Guys who fought him, like Foreman, said "I'd never do that again."

If you want to regurgitate 50's boxers because you think it strengthens your point, you're silly. Sonny Liston would mop the floor with any of them.   drrr drrr Max Schmeling whatever.

Frazier
Foreman
Liston
Ali
Larry Holmes
Tyson

Would wipe the floor with any boxer from the 50's back. Every time, anywhere.

There isn't anyone, anywhere that could beat Prime Ali. I am curious as to whom you think could? Louis? Nah, too methodical....Marciano? Talk about getting some gift fights (also the fix was in towards the end of his career), Max? knocked out round 3...too lumbering.

Oh and you're taking a shot at Frazier? Come on man now you're just grasping for straws. He wasn't just an infighter...he invented one of the only styles that confused Ali.

:comeon

How is Frazier slipping and weaving jabs, getting in close, throwing dynamic combinations of left hooks from middle and close range to the liver and body invention? Infighters have been doing that across all weight classes since... Terry McGovern?

Frazier's right hand work was very pedestrian. Wonder what kind of guy he'd have been like had he been allowed to box as a southpaw. Those inverted southpaws like DLH and Hagler always look awkward leading with their strong had and rarely use their weak hand in the power position well.

The crab method he employed was improved greatly by Frazier to include hook and follows, high weight pushes, and superior exterior defense from hooks and crosses.

:yeshrug

I honestly think him and ali's fights are what killed their bodies. You can't do what they did for 2 hours in 110 degree heat and not suffer some type of long term damage man.

I'm too busy thinking about chicken now.

Frazier is a Top 10 all time heavyweight. You can wank all you want about older fighters but I'm not going to change my mind.

His son though.....:ohhh

Exactly, having to get past the ESPN Classic conditioning and actually do research isn't easy. Then you'd have to accept that in his youth George Foreman was a powerful but slow heavyweight who barely maintained any sort of punch or form discipline and Joe Frazier's whole career success was based on his opponents complete inability to counter him throwing a left hook over and over and over again without adjusting (Image removed from quote.)

Late 60's- early 80's was GOAT heavyweights
80's was GOAT Middle-LW's

In my opinion.

I can't see Liston beating Foreman. Liston always struggled with bigger guys because his style was predicated on hitting you from farther out that you could hit him.

The thing with those game (I was a bit older when I played them) is you actually had to box. You couldn't just go out and throw haymakers and win. That probably didn't go so well for a youngster.

When you got up into the top 10 the bouts would often go the distance unless you or the CPU made a massive fuckup or got flash KO'd.

This is before your time esch but it's STILL the best boxing game of all time

Yep lol. Whenever I'd get a decent distance up there I'd run into some ranker and get sonned with like one single fuckup and then having to start over.

And it's not like you could practice either, since it was on the game gear which was using 6 fucking AA batteries and lasted about 3 hours for all of those :neogaf

Oh yeah, you set yourself up as a puncher and try to box with Ali? You fucked son.

You are boxer and trying to stand toe to toe with Liston? Goodnight

Here's a good video of it's successor which was EVEN better

Can't lie. It was the shit when we were in grade school. Worldwide phenomenon. My brother's friend Kenji got subs of the movies right as they came out of japan and we sold copies of them in school (Image removed from quote.)

There was just nothing like it in america on tv. Batman and Superman was cool and all, but Goku and co were killing dudes :yeshrug

You did that to?  :lol

Yeah brav. Some kids were selling pokemon cards or whatever, me and my big bro sold bootlegs, albums, mixtapes to people too dumb / rich to use the internet.

I'll never forget the first time we got the frieza saga subs in the mail and saw Goku go super saiyan for the first time, shit had us jumping in and out of our seat. Me and my brother were at odds a lot but man, watching and selling DBZ together was at least one thing we'd have fun doing :tocry

(Image removed from quote.)

To be honest there is nothing cool about this post at all with the exception of the brother bonding. The rest of that shit is horrible.

When everything is illegal, the lines become blurred.

I read an article in Modern Drunkard magazine about drinking in Iran and the crux of it was, when it's illegal everywhere, anywhere can become a bar.
