Just curious, how long before you and your wife left your little poop jihadist with your fam and had a night to yourselfs?

Saw some friend that had a baby recently posting some holiday pics, sans baby, and theirs is our kids age (2 months). Total conjecture on my part but it seems they left the baby behind. Could be wrong though.

I was still attempting to play ball so the first time I have to travel after Jr was born was about a week after. It beat me up inside. It gets easier to do but you'll still spend 50% of your time hoping everything is okay until he/she gets to be about 4.

After that you'll just pray they don't embarrass you.

Edit: 2 months? Hell no.
YMMV

For 1 night? First baby? Pretty late - 6-8 months I think.

For 1 week, first baby, 1.5 years when I was in Tokyo with my wife.

For 1 night? Second baby? Pretty early - 3 months old :D

For 1 week, second baby? Pretty much never gonna happen :C

Another factor I suppose is how far away trusted grandparents/relatives of the kid live. When I had my first we lived in Scotland so that wasn't going to happen. When I had baby #2 we lived 30 minutes from my mother, so that made things a lot easier.

Borys is right about kid #2 but if you go for kid #3 (god bless you) you will realize about 2 months in that it's still a massive struggle and now you go two other young ones competing for your time by seeing who can knock over the biggest bookshelf.
YMMV

Oh and let me give you a hint nobody ever gave me.

If they are being quiet they are doing something wrong. Trust me.
YMMV

I had preemies, so my experience won't really apply to yours. But, for a healthy baby, I think 2-3 months is the appropriate time to start stepping out on your own (if you have trusted family members to watch).

You might even start thinking about planning some long weekend getaways this summer. Those go a long way in helping you cope with the first year.

We had date nights out after a couple months. My parents or friends would watch her so we could go to dinner and a movie or something.

My wife and I went to Vancouver for a weekend and left our daughter with my parents when she was five or six months old. We did 10 days in Japan while my parents watched her just after her second birthday.

you always assume this is an exaggeration from parents but it is so true. the two most silent moments from my son (including sleep) were:

1) climbing over a child gate to go to the bathroom and then coating himself, head to toe, in a 16oz jar of desitin. it took hours to get it off him. i really regret not taking a picture, he looked like that guy eating his ice cream head.

2) walking up a ladder onto the inlaw's roof to hang out with grandpa. dude stealthed right up there.

I learned this thanks to my niece and nephew when they still lived with us. :lol
