Recommend some non-GAF-related forums
« on: April 07, 2015, 02:46:32 PM »
As a title says, not related closely or by far to GAF. So no off shoots and forums obsessing over GAF (no thebore self promotion!).

If further options are required then maybe not a forum overly obsessed with any issue/hobby but it can slant one way. GAF is too big for its own good, it feels too impersonal, I prefer smaller communities. GAF is too overly moderated, I'm an adult, I can deal with unpopular opinions. Pay forums suck. Is that enough? :)

Joe Rogan's forum is ok. A little bit on the 'bro' side, but can be funny/perverse/interesting from time to time.

OA is in the midst of its cycle of death and rebirth. At this very point the head of the dragon has been cut and seven heads grew in its place.

I can do other stuff until things go back to "normal".  ;)

PS: I can't stand the Coli. Cacdom 4ever.

That was the first video game forum I went to before I found GAF. I think 2003-2004ish. Some interesting posters on there (back then).

Style forum is pretty cool.

You can post about the finer things in life without idiots getting super defensive and jealous like on GAF.

it's not perfect but out of the major 'fashion forumz' (superfuture, hypebeast, askandy stylezeitgeist, the reddit one, etc) it's the least horrible. that might sound like faint praise but having read them all since the early 00s it is kind of remarkable :lol

thefashionspot is useful for news/runway shitz, you just need a current member to give you account access to post. you know who to call :smug

SA is like GAF: more than its fair share of easily triggered dipshits but the subforums can be pretty good.  GBS, FYAD, BYOB are all junk as is D&D.  Stay away from those places and you should be fine.

SZ is insufferable in the most wonderful way though.Across their editorials, social media and forum posts there is this unmistakable condescending smarm of someone who collects their cum in an artisan leather spittoon born from continuous dialogue between Portuguese craftsmanship and Nordic minimalism.

the most amusing aspect of sz is that the most prolific designer on that board (rick owens) would probably find the majority of the attitudes on that forum immature and annoying.

it's ok, i'm a little ambivalent about cost-focused forums (in either direction), as it really shouldn't matter imo. but I get why it happens.

The nice thing about SA is if you're being a moron, people don't really engage with you. they acknowledge the basic fact of life that sometimes, you just don't need to treat what people say seriously if they're being stupid. They'll just quote you with a 'lol' or a joke and mock you, as is only appropriate

"lol"
