PC issue- possible faulty power supply?

So, the great thing about pcs these days is that basically any idiot can build them. The problem is, any idiot (like me) will.

Built current pc last October- past day it's started to randomly shut off, and when it turns back on it boots to the bios, giving a message about detecting a surge in the power supply in the last power on. It's a corsair cx750m, and I think this is the thread with the specs on my pc in it.

Is there a way to test and see if my power supply is indeed shitting the bed and I need to get a new one, or if it's a different issue entirely?

Definitely sounds like a power supply problem. I don't really know how you can test that without having another power supply lying around, though.

You can use the paperclip trick to start it outside of the case, then test the rails with a multimeter, but if your motherboard says it's the PSU it's probably right. Sounds like it's saving your other components from getting fried.

Plenty of people had theirs die after a couple months too. The model could have very well been made by different manufacturers, so there's bound to be some variance in quality.

Go buy another one. Send that one in for replacement since it's under warranty. When you get it back keep it as a backup.

stupid question, are you plugged into a surge protector / power strip and not directly to the wall outlet?  i agree, prolly power supply, but if not, a UPS is never a bad investment

It was the power supply. And yeah, plugged into a UPS.
