I've seen tales of dry socket and high speed eye hornets the last couple days. I laugh, dismissively. What's the worst you've ever dealt with?

Had a hairline fracture to the bone near the area where the foot and leg meet. Didn't know this because after going to the emergency room they said it was a really bad sprain, got a call a few days later and it turns out whomever didn't notice or look at the xrays right. Happened when I was a kid so healing was faster, my left leg is longer than my right leg by a noticeable amount though. Left leg was the one broken. Foot was swollen to the point of non movement.

Pilonidal Cyst was arguably just as bad. Thought I threw my back out, thing swelled up and drained. Got antibiotics. Came back with a lot less pain a couple of months later. Haven't had an incident since. The pain the first time around was fucked up, no over the counter pain medication works, ice dulls the pain for a bit, sitting upright caused instantaneous sharp pain. Its hard to describe the pain other than severe and constant.

Went into the basement bathroom in the family home and the bathroom had no rugs down, water was everywhere including the entrance. I slipped and slammed my elbow on the inner flat part of my left elbow on the counter top with a ton of downforce. Not much swelling but severe pain if I touched the area. Pain persisted if applied pressure to the area for months. Now my left arm is a lot weaker than my right.


EDIT: While the pain aspect wasn't that bad, I accidentally ripped half of my big toenail off when I was moving the boxspring for my bed. Eventually the other half withered away and fell off. Nail grew back fine.

Don't let women fool you. Once I got the epidural, I felt nothing. I was doing great without one until some complications came up. The nurses were coming in laughing and telling me about all the other women on the floor screaming and crying in pain, and they had all had epidurals as soon as they walked in the door. Fucking wimps.

Broke my leg (some kind of fracture) and was walking around with immense pain for several days-- was taken to a hospital and told nothing was broken, then found that the next day I couldn't stand up.  Went to another hospital who confirmed the fracture and had my leg in a cast before I even knew what was going on.

The one time I was seriously hurt, it was enough to knock me out completely, and it wasn't that bad when waking up despite a broken hand. Probably cause I was getting all that sweet painkillers injected into me. So the worst is probably when I fell on my bicycle, and got my finger into the wheel. That resulted in it getting a bit skinned and destroyed nail, it looked nasty as fuck for a long time. My wisdom tooth getting infected wasn't nice either... At all.

Leg feels great. Gets stiff when it's cold but other than that ok. I ran 3 miles today in fact.

As for rehab? 6 months of the most brutal mind destroying shit you'll ever experience.

Ruptured eardrum due to swimmer's ear. And it happened during the night, so I had to endure that pain until morning when I could go to the doctor. The only thing that helped the pain at all was applying heat to the inside of my ear, which came in the form of my mom using a hair dryer to blow hot air down into my ear canal. Imagine the worst headache you've ever had, but several times worse and it lasts for about 8 hours. Definitely not the sort of thing I'd want to go through ever again.

lol they had to induce my wife both times, and the contractions went from zero to 1000 in like 10 minutes. she was ok for a bit and then she started crying from the pain so we did he epidural. right after we delivered, we could hear a woman screaming as if she were being fucking murdered with a knife in the room next to us. goddamn.

for myself, when my son cut my eye with his finger a bit ago. i think i posted about it here. felt like someone was stabbing me in the eye with a lemon-soaked fish hook for a solid day. vicodin did nothing.

When I was like 12 I had a terrible ear infection and no insurance.
At one point it was so bad I passed out, I remember laying there in like a fog as my mom put warm towels next to my ear before everything went black.
When I woke up my pillow was fucking soaked in blood and I had a fuckton of it in my ear.

I had tiny chips of old blood coming out of my ear for like that year as my ear healed.
My left ear hasn't really been 100% since. Everything sounds slightly slightly tinny.

I've gotten into some major fuck ups since, but absolutely nothing compared to that. It felt like my brain was on fire.

Anyway, for me it was stepping on a nail when I was a kid. Probably around 10 or 11. Nail went through my flip flop and almost all the way through my foot.

That wasn't the painful part, though. The real painful part was that a little piece of rust came off the nail when I pulled it out of my foot and got stuck in there. A couple days later I went to the doctor because of it and this is the painful part- they had to cut my foot open to get the little fucker out. First, though, they gave me a shot that lasted for about a minute, numbing as many nerves as they could.

Second most painful thing ever: had a staph infection a couple years ago when I was dead broke. Went to the cheap, sliding scale clinic where I lived and they misdiagnosed it as a spider bite and gave me the wrong meds for a week. Came back in almost dead a week later and they decided to do a culture of the nasty little wound on my abdomen. Problem was, it wasn't discharging anything anymore, so they had to jab a q tip INTO THE FUCKING OPEN WOUND ON MY SIDE and get some nastiness out. That sucked.

Ingrown toenail on both feet a few years back. I'd been living with them for a long time (years) cause I was a shy and stupid fucker who kept everything to himself, even though just walking with sneakers was really painful cause it was infected. Ruined a bunch of socks with blood marks from where my toes would end up bleeding every time I left the house.

I've since had an operation to have the sides of both toenails cauterized, which hurt like hell for a few days but got rid of the issue entirely. I'm lucky enough that there were no complications and I've even had some of the cauterized sides grow back into their proper place.

I had some stuff in my nose cauterized when I was a id.  When the local anesthesia wore off I guess the ENT guy didn't have a plan or whatever, but I have never been in that kind of pain before or since.  Nothing even remotely close, felt like a nail bomb going off in my sinuses every few milliseconds.  I collapsed a few times and they gave me a shot of something.  Still hurt like hell the next few days, but man that was some "I'll just kill myself right now" kind of pain.

The worst I've ever dealt with was when I had to have a root canal on my top incisor on an infection that started before a four day weekend. By Saturday night I couldn't sleep because this thing was just pounding. By the time I finally got to the dentist Tuesday morning, and they barely looked in my mouth before sending me to the local orthodontist. He said if it was any worse he would have sent me to the hospital and that I was lucky that wasn't the case. The moment when he applied the novocaine was easily the most painful thing I've ever felt, like I realized "blinded by pain" was a real thing, either my eyes rolled into the back of my head or I blacked out because I couldn't see shit for a second. Then as soon as it kicked in it was a sense of relief that bordered on orgasmic.

I sat there for like three hours as the infection drained out. He eventually sent me home without closing the tooth cuz the office was closing, which was super fuckin gross but I could sleep again so I didn't give a shit.

I've broken my arm, twice, and nearly shattered my knee dropping into a half pipe, but none of those really touch this whole ordeal when it comes to sheer visceral pain.

I used to work with a dude in college who had a family history of calcium build up causing a chronic kidney stone problem. I thought he was fucking with me, but he passed stones at the minimum 4 to 3 times a year. I worked with that dude for 2 years and saw him leave 5 times to the hospital mid shift through the first year. One time I went to work and found him laying flat on the floor with the back door to the garbage bins area open. I thought someone ran up on him or some shit but it turns out he was about to piss another rock.

Fuck everything about that life.

worked a shitty job that left my back in non-spp excruciating pain for the better part of two years. still is stiff and sore most of the time, ten years later. since it was a shit job for a giant company, they gave me like an hour of physical therapy and told me to go fuck myself. stay away from physical labor, kids.
