Kid "Russell Westbrook. He's the best of all time I think"

Me "Wow, Better than MJ or Lebron?"

Kid "Definitely better than Lebron. Who's MJ?"

Me "Michael Jordan"

Kid "Is that an old school player like Allen Iverson?"

One of my students works towards earning baseball cards when he demonstrates good behavior. He got a pack of 2015 cards and one of them was a cool Hank Aaron card.

I call bs that he's a "basketball fan" although increasingly as time passes, I suppose its possible that someone might not recognize the MJ name as a player. But to be honest, I always think people like that are dumb. I mean Bill Russell was way before my time but I knew who he was even as a kid.

It's like asking somebody about Hitler and them deflecting and saying well that was before my time so I don't know who that is. In my brain, I'm always like Fuck You.


The weird thing I will say is that Allen Iverson has street cred so he has remained relevant in a way that most players from that generation haven't. Which annoys the fuck out of me.
