More just dumb. How bad is tomorrowland, by the way?

Reviewing bad and will probably do poorly. We'll see how much work he gets after that one.

that has got to be one of the top ten worst scripts ever attached to a budget that size.

I'm pretty sure Orci and Kurtzman have written more than 10 big budget movie scripts, so that's not true.

Honestly, those ghost twins who could phase in and out of a solid state were a cooler idea than anything in the entirety of Prometheus.

They were so severely underused outside of that Highway chase.

Prometheus is definitely on my list of most disappointing movies, alongside The Village lol...

Everything we saw before and during filming was great. The storyboards, the story leaks, the sets...it looked like a return to form for Scott. Well now it's pretty clear Scott is finished. I won't be tricked by him again.

What I loved about Prometheus was that for a long time it slow rolled you with this "Alien on a planet" vibe and then BAM it went full Resurrection tier nonsense. :lawd

The Matrix franchise pissed away its potential so much that it was pretty amazing to see it unfold.  Definitely more noteworthy than Prometheus.

i only saw bits and pieces of seasons 1 and 2 while my sister was into the show. i'm not sure i ever even sat through an entire episode start to finish. i enjoyed what i watched and, factoring in my occasional skimming of entertainingly hyperbolic forum threads in later years, ended up fairly satisfied with my Lost experience overall.

I saw the first Matrix pretty late, after the hype. Around the time the third film was coming out iirc. But I definitely remember lots of complaints about how unsatisfied folks were with Reloaded. That's probably at the top of a most disappointing film list, at least in the last 10-15 years.

I still haven't seen all of Reloaded. I've seen multiple parts on TV over the years but have never sat down and watched the whole thing.

I don't have an opinion on Lost, since I watched a couple episodes and tought nothing of it.
The fandom though was the worst. All these years they wasted on writing thousand pages essays on mysteries that were transparently bullshit only to backpedal like aggressive motherfuckers in utter denial once the conclusion arrived was both funny and kinda sad. Poster child of the worst you can expect from TV shows IMHO (I'll give it to mormapope : it was epic in its failure). At least for X-Files, you had a number of enjoyable self-contained episodes that couldn't be retroactively made less enjoyable because of a terrible finale ("I am the super soldiers").

Prometheus was hilarious as well. All this hype to ultimately do a shitty big budget version of Roger Corman's Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World (Space flute included)... Writing is hack as hell and Scott has lost most of his visual touch, too bad because the sets and wardrobe are decent in places. But I guess we got the Scottish spider zombie out of that !

Like Lost, Matrix was always destined to be a mouse out of a mountain in the end. Filmmakers are not philosophers and vice-versa, at some point the whole "discourse" was gonna fall on itself hard. I kinda like Reloaded but I didn't expect really the films to be able to deliver on it.

Really liked Lost.

Writing wasn't fantastic, nothing was ever really properly resolved and the acting wasn't always great either. But for some reason I loved it all anyway. The music was real good though.

There was plenty of opportunity to make a pure sci-fi Matrix sequel that put the philosophical shit on the back-burner. The elements are all there. Such a missed opportunity.

Yeah, but no need to regret the path not traveled...

As I said elsewhere, I'm not too big on TV shows, and the only one I have seen recently which have been able to deliver a convincing cohevise arc-story to its end was, surprisingly, Arrested Development (didn't watch the "new" season, though). I loved Babylon 5 when I was younger and they did a decent job at that too, even if anything past the Shadow war was so-so.

That shit was so dumb :snoop Fools won't accept it yet, but there was a lot of dumb shit in BB. I liked it, it was good, but there are whole half seasons (the first half of season 2 and the first half of season 3) that are poor. The show isn't flawless.

There's a bunch of dumb shit in all your favorite shows.  The Don Draper/Dick Whitman thing was eye roll inducing for example.  Almost the whole fifth season of the Wire is C-tier television.  It's just the positives outweigh the negatives, no big deal.

The Matrix would have been just fine on its own but it was the beginning of the era where everything had to be a trilogy.  Then there was a bunch of hype for Reloaded, so they pumped out Animatrix, two shitty video games, and who knows what else.

Also there was this:

I'm probably gonna watch through these tonight, its been a while since I thought about Lost and I was super invested in the show while it was airing. It bugs the hell out of me that these guys squandered the many chances they were given to deliver a satisfying ending. ABC literally gave them a guaranteed number of remaining episodes and a set end date I think after the third season. I remember them talking about what a big deal it was and how it would allow them to end the story right. And they still messed up the final season.

Still, it was a great experience watch the show week to week as it was airing. There are lots of great episodes and moments in that show. It was fun and exciting enough to make it all worth it even if they fucked up the ending.

Lost was a show that was incredibly fun to watch as long as you never actually thought about it. The more you thought about it, the more you realized none of it made any god damn sense. I realized that very early on so I choose not to go down the road of ever actually thinking it was going to connect.

But the producers of that show when you see what they were constantly saying before and after the fact on all manners of things is enough to get you mad even if overall you liked the show. It's really unbelievable.

I wouldn't go that far. It was fun to think about and theorize/guess about what was coming next. I don't mean just on a macro "this is what's gonna happen in the very end" way (which I rarely did), but moreso the episode-to-episode/season-to-season "man I wonder what's gonna happen to x...oh shit remember y, what if that plays a part in z etc etc" speculation.

After awhile it became clear the show wouldn't answer most of the questions, but even that realization didn't stop me from being disappointed in most of the last season. There were some top tier episodes but overall it fell flat.

Overall the strength of Lost wasn't the plot, end game, etc. It was the characters and characterization. They really nailed it by creating a very large cast of characters worth giving a shit about, each of which had differing personalities and motives. One of my favorite things about the show was the power struggle between Jack and Locke, and how other characters became kingmakers. For instance you knew whoever Sayid helped between those two would win out. Or how they'd try to get Hurley on their side to influence others.

The worst fanboy defence was "but it was a show about characters, so the rest doesn't matter" - bitch, every show relies on good characters, unless we're talking about documentaries or something. Lindelof is a complete hack. Somehow manages to completely fuck whatever he touches, and that includes things he didn't even start, or not on his own (Lost, Prometheus).
