Arrested Development season 5 coming mid-2016
« on: June 02, 2015, 06:46:49 PM »
There will definitely be more “Arrested Development,” and sooner rather than later, according to Brian Grazer.

The super-producer shared the news on Tuesday’s “Adam Carolla Show” podcast. Grazer said he spoke with Fox Studios on Monday, and everyone is on board. As a matter of fact, Grazer told Carolla that he broke the news to Mitch Hurwitz from the popular podcast’s greenroom.

“Netflix is determined to do more episodes, so we’re going to do more episodes,” he told Carolla. Production is slated to begin after Jan. 1.

Fans can expect new episodes “four months after that,” Grazer added.

Season 4 ended up being pretty good [despite a few of the episodes being sub-par], so I'm excited for more.

Yeah, s4 was underrated (over-hated?) That said I hope they go back to the original formula.

S4 definitely improved once funny characters got an episode (Gob, Buster, etc). Those early eps were rough though.

I understand the entire cast can't be in every episode, but I'd hope this time they try to get as many in individual episodes as possible. For instance an ep of Michael, Gob, and Tobias doing shit and interacting with minor characters.

Yeah I kind of hope they give it a real finale this time.  3 years between seasons is a little ridiculous.

I liked season 4 more than most by the way.  I watched the first 3 seasons for the first time shortly before it aired and I honestly don't think the drop in quality was all that big.

Wasn't there talk about them re-editing the 4th season to be more linear? Looking forward to see if that works better.

The last few episodes of Season 4 are excellent, but yeah, I'm hoping they go back to the original formula for the fifth season

New season is supposed to be 17 episodes, that's the most the show has had since the second season of 18.

"Over-hated" is a solid explanation I think, the level of hype surrounding it from people who had never seen the show's original run or even initial bout of "GREAT SHOW YOU NEVER SAW" were both the reason it was coming back and part of the backlash.

Even the original three seasons are quite different shows if you watch one or two a week versus marathoning a whole season.

I'll watch it of course but honestly I hope this is the end.

Originally, I think the plan was for them to do season four and then do the movie as the finale. Since the movie (as a finale to season three) was originally the starting point of what led to them doing season four but season four wasn't the movie's story. Or something. I think the cast getting more famous, especially Bateman's career revival though he seems the most willing to just drop whatever he's doing and play Michael at a moments notice (vs. say David Cross dropping his...nothing*? to play Tobias), has made a lot of it harder to plan out.

I imagine once The Turtles sequel stops shooting, Will Arnett will be more available what with The Millers cancelled and *The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Tood Margaret having finished shooting last year.

Though if Hurwitz keeps having to play Koogler, the greatest Community character, who knows how much time he can devote to AD.

Running Wilde got a lot better, especially in the last few episodes that only aired on FX, though they probably brought in too many Arrested alums for various parts.

Yeah, they said they were doing that. And Ron Howard did new voiceover work. I don't know if it's on the DVDs or will just be put up on Netflix or what. I think there's a fan edit or a couple and that one of them is what convinced Hurwitz it was a good idea to do an alternate chronological edit. (Though obviously as how he viewed it, not some fan just pasting it together.)
