Sublime makes me want to murder a white person in flip flops everytime I hear even a snippet of them.  What are some bands/singers that make you want to kill someone?

The common thread among all things I despise in music is when the artist intentionally panders to the LCD. When it's so blatant, it's an affront to your senses.

So, 98% of all modern country and many pop artists.

Matchbox 20, or just the sounds Rob Thomas makes anytime he opens his mouth.

I swear, he could order a cheeseburger and it would sound irritating as hell.

Not getting why Sublime would be rage-inducing in this context.
:yeshrug

^^^
This mother fucker would be if I actually attempted to listen to anything he's done.

My list would be most grunge bands, most nu-metal bands, most pop-stars from this era in particular, and most of the rappers and 'pop' rappers from the last 15 years or so.

Yeah I don't really get that either. I mean are a lot of people who listen to sublime douchey? Sure. But the phenomenon that happened with that band isn't their fault. I'm old enough to remember when Sublime really was a very small cult thing. And the people who listened to them back then are different than the post generation that grew up on them.

Mainly what this boils down to obviously is things that are popular that I'm not really a fan of.

So in that vein, I'll go with Kid Rock. He was barely tolerable as a shit level rapper for white frat bros. But his whole move into a faux americana republican heartland singer is absolute shit stuff. One year, the baseball playoffs used one of his anthems ad nauseam and I don't think I've watched TBS since. He's the best metaphor for America by copying things but never actually understanding them at their core.

I like all those bands also.

But I think what can happen is that if you are in a time and place where you have a crazy friend who is trying to shove a band down your throat as the most progressive unique sound out there, it can make you hate them.

I like Rush. But I can also understand that many Rush fans would almost drive any sane person to hating that band.

It's not that Rush fans are annoying... although they are certainly annoying.

It's not even that Rush are a bunch of libertarian shitburgers, although they most certainly are.

It's the simple fact that despite all of that undeniable musical virtuosity in the band, Geddy Lee's voice will always, ALWAYS just sound like an elf being tortured. That's an objective fact.

Ska bands.  That shit drove me nuts when it got big for a little while there.  Too much of it sounded exactly the same.  I did like The Urge's first album, but they're not entirely ska I guess.

The worst experience was in my high school senior art class.  This kid put on the worst crap I have ever heard -it was a ska "band" made up of some students- and it made my ears bleed.  We collectively-threatened him to take the CD out immediately or watch it get cut up into pieces.

Not getting why Sublime would be rage-inducing in this context.

I remember Sublime from before they were popular because my older brother and his friends used to listen to them.  Was pretty surprised when they blew up and then the lead singer blew himself up and that was that.   :-\  But I can't say I find their music annoying.  Some of it is pretty juvenile but whatever.

It's all this ultrabland bluegrass / folk / jam band mishmash slop (it's the whitest place in the world) and the cornballs around here just gobble it up. Basically the musical equivalent of vanilla froyo. Eminem. Never has trash to straight up mediocrity been celebrated more. You can complain about Radiohead all you want, if you deny they have at least a couple amazing albums you're a fucking idiot. You can hand wring over RHCP, Rush, Tool, etc yet for the most part they have at least one great album that stands the test of time. Can you say that about Eminem? All of his best material has aged like shit, especially when compared to actual classic hip hop albums. If I throw on Illmatic or Death Certificate today, is anyone going to be like "nah, this isn't cool anymore"? No, and if so you're a plebe bro.

Marshal Mathers LP is a good album, I'm not denying that. But the initial level of shock and amazement wore off a decade ago. It's now just a crass album full of very basic, lifeless production and wack guest appearances. There is no funk or soul or swing or whatever you want to call it.

Technically Eminem was a great rapper. But so was Canibus. Ultimately both have been trash for longer than they've been good for the same reason. You can only rap about rap for so long, you can only rely on your flow for so long, and you can only do corny shit for so long. Eminem is a 40 year old man rapping about eating buggers and raping chicks. Come on. His artistic growth arc has pretty much been...nothing. I'll give him props for making nice with his mom, but outside of that it's the same shit he rapped about 15 years ago, minus the dope flow. Now his flow is trash.

Annoying fans? How about fans who don't listen to anything outside of Eminem, waxing poetic about how he's the greatest rapper ever, the only rapper who doesn't rap about violence (lol) and drugs (LOL) or street life. At least Radiohead fans tend to have a college degree.

honestly, I wouldn't even disagree with you, I just think it's a case where the genre became so saturated with the stuff that bands like Zep were doing it's difficult for us to appreciate it

my grandpa grew up in the Dust Bowl and his idea of cookies are essentially just wheat and flour. conversely, the current American food industry's nutritional standards have rendered my taste buds impotent to anything that doesn't contain an obscene amount of saturated fat. which one of us is right?

I'd argue Smoke On The Water is first. Stairway To Heaven is not overplayed at all in Saudi. Smoke On The Water? It's like the most recognizable guitar riff of all time or something.

"I took guitar lessons once and this is the only riff my dumb ass managed to learn" type dudes. Seven Nation Army is another guitar riff people who can only focus on one string at a time like to believe they can play.

Let's change lanes then.

You wanna talk utterly disposable and unusable?

The entire pop punk / scene kid genre. It's amazing how something so ridiculously popular had no ripple waves. in fact the only traces of this shit you saw as they disappeared were the fashion choices of some of the metalcore/deathcore kiddies and skaterfegs. it's like almost all it's exponents collectively realized it was trash on every level as they got older and completely threw the culture in the bushes.

(Image removed from quote.)

Are you talking about Emo bands or something else entirely?

Emo reached its highest popularity peak in the years 2004-2007. Shit died fast. Anyone that listened to that type of music was ridiculed on the spot.
