looks cool. I hope they change everything and piss people off. I'm of the camp that thinks trying to make a "faithful" remake is pretty pointless especially if they're changing the technological level so much that it can't possibly capture the same feel since the original was designed around the technology it used. Either go all the way or don't bother at all, even if you "fuck it up" it's still preferable to doing something boring.

yup I don't care if this is a scene-by-scene remake or whatever. I fully expect them to change plenty (like no way are they gonna keep most of those mini games in) and I trust that they'll do a decent enough job with whatever they decide on.

I'm so happy over Shenmue III that I don't want to be a downer but I don't expect it to be the game we remember. For example, I bet you aren't environmental terrorists this time due to post-9/11.

Don't want to risk sounding like PR, but he didn't get fired, they just shifted him to other projects.

It would be very hard to screw up the direction role of FFVII with everything already laid in place. Worse they can do is just tone it down such as removing the crossdressing scene or Barret's swearing.

I'd hope this plays more like an expanded edition of the original with better assets, but I'm fully expecting this to be more of a reimagining of the original.

How hard can it be to remake a game.

It's all been designed already so you don't have to wreck your head coming up with shit, just fucking REmake it.

Like other companies can pump out NEW games in two years.

Not to excuse Square over their dev cycles but aren't they changing part of the design of the game actually ? Plus I would expect upgrading from PSX to PS4 to have some implications anyway (was FF7 compatible with analog control ? It's silly but even a 1:1 remake would have to adress that).

Yeah but they don't need to reinvent the wheel here.

They have modern engines that work somewhat. They have the battle system. They have the script.

Litteraly the whole game is there and they have to move it to 3D. Surely doable in two/three years when other devs can make an entire new game in that time.

This isn't going to be Final Fantasy 7 but with new 3D backgrounds, they're making a completely new game from FF7's script [which is also probably having some work done on it].
