I would put it above 2011 and 2012 to be honest. 2011 had literally nothing, 2012 was overly glorifying a stupid minigame collection with little else to show new. This one at least finally revealed Star Fox (although announced last year) and the new Zelda 3DS game. (And I guess that new Mario RPG crossover)

Not saying this one was great, I thought it was okay but I didn't have high expectations to begin with. But  at the Animal Crossing Wii U game. The meltdowns are glorious though 


Also FE x SMT still looks like fucking weeaboo shit.

2011 debuted the Wii U which was kinda neat but also kinda botched. EA "unprecedented partnership" was cool at the time, lol.

It also started with that cool Zelda orchestra. Oh and Luigi's Mansion 2 was announced.

Maybe because I don't excpect anything from Nintendo and am not an actual fan, but Star Fox and FEXSMT were decent enough showings. WiiU has an actual solid 2015 with FF and Xenoblade. That's potentially better exclusive wise then the PS4.

My personal theory is that Nintendo has basically moved on and is focusing on their NX and 4DS software.  Nintendo can't wait for an opportunity to pinch out Yet Another New Super Mario Bros.

I think NX is the name of the hardware platform for both the next handheld and home console. They'll both use a common instruction set or something, come out at the same time, and probably have a mostly shared library. The home console version will probably have more RAM or otherwise better specs, but it'll be the same type of platform (I'm betting on ARM.)

Sony and Microsoft don't really feel they need to offer much more than a low-mid range PC.

Nintendo is the one who feels the need to center the console around a gimmick.  So whatever they would have come up with would be more expensive than the Bone or the PS4.  That or take crippling losses (which they kind of did anyway).

Thing is Nintendo isn't going to offer a 400$ console. They'd have to subsidize it heavily to get to their magic price points, which they're also not going to do, so underpowered Nintendo 1st party machines it is.

Eh, Nintendo could have made the Wii U more powerful at the same price point if it wasn't wasting power on energy efficiency and the small form factor. They also constrain themselves to an older and crappier architecture because they want backward compatibility. Tech and money is also wasted on the Pad + streaming.

Honestly glad they are moving on to a new architecture for the NX. Even if it means getting rid of backwards compatibility, it should be a good trade off provided if they pull things off right.

What the fuck does this even mean? Nintendo could easily release a system with a ton of power. They just don't want to. It's a design decision. Albeit an immensely shitty one.

Low-power has its benefits but not generation-behind low-power.

It would be perhaps fairer to say that Nintendo could be lacking the know-how to use this potential power at once in their games.
Also, Microsoft and Sony are an at advantage in R&D due to their size and portfolio of activities.

Mario Kart 8 looks perfect. I could not imagine a better looking Nintendo game TBH. Even if 4K becomes a "thing" I think it'll still look fucking great the same way SNES games do for me.
