Worth it.

Okay, you mean Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast. That is NOT Outrun 2, though it's often advertised as being so. But still, better than nothing!

 :idont

This is like saying "Street Fighter II Champion Edition is NOT Street Fighter II."   :P

There's a PC version of Outrun 2006, but you can't buy it since the game was pulled due to Ferrari licensing.

You can't buy it on ps3 anymore either.

You couldn't buy it on PS3 in the U.S. anyway.  It never came out here.  But yeah, they pulled it for 360 and PS3.  I was never that big on that version of the game since it's missing some of the music and prefer to play it on PC, PSP, or PS2.  I have the Japanese version for PS2 which got some slight improvements over the American version, since it came out later and Sumo Digital is awesome.

It apparently costs 50 bucks for pc disc.

Worth it.

Yup.  You can then install it and download a modified .EXE file so you don't need the disc to run it.  I picked up a copy of it a few years ago for like $19.99 before they stopped selling it everywhere.  I believe there's mods out there now that enhance the visuals, too.

Since we are talking about ports, you know what I'd really like? Daytona 2 for home.

I haven't played it since like 2000. :(

PC wins again.

But can you imagine Daytona 2 online play with 40 users? :drool

When Suzuki finishes up the Shenmue saga, he should go back to making tight ass arcade games on the digital platform. Maybe not for arcade machines, but for psn/xbla/steam. I would explode into candy if that happened. :uguu

I'll believe it when they give SUMO the chance to make another Sonic All Star Racing.
There was serious fucking Mario Kart status potential in that series.

Mario Kart is dog shit. Sonic All Star Racing trashes Mario Kart.

If Sonic All Star Racing never achieved Mario Kart status we should tell Sumo thank you.

Mario Kart being dog shit has absolutely nothing to do with Sega. We could use any other racing game comparison, whether it be Wipeout or anything else, and it'd still rule to be true.

I have no problem with people having a preference for one series or another, but making a point of fact in a Sega thread to bring up a similar Nintendo franchise just to trash it reeks of the ever-present inferiority complex Sega fans have. :hitler

Also, to call MK "dog shit" with no qualifier is ignoring how mechanically-tight, highly-polished, and immediately-accessible the series is and why it's sold over 100 million copies. Such a statement is in fact ignoring reality.

If a racing game cannot be deduced to pure skill but due to sheer luck

again

how is it not doo doo??!?! I have not played Mario Kart 8 but very, very often, Nintendo game reviews receive overly inflated review scores due to brand recognition, nostalgia, and pure Nintendo allegiance, so it's hard to take reviews of Mario Kart 8 seriously in any form. But the fact of the matter is that Mario Kart is a completely broken game that relies on weapons and raw luck more than actual skill.

If you're better than the competition, you will win 90%+ of your races. There's a nuance to the item system in Mario Kart that does require skill in order to maximize your odds of winning. The people playing MK8 online and racking up the scoreboard aren't doing it because they have a 1 in 12 shot of winning or whatever, it's cause they're good. And they know how to consistently beat other racers.

Lol this is absolutely false.

And even besides that, it's still a hell of a lot of fun to play. If a game is fun and has amazing production values, is it "shit" or "doo doo"? No. :yeshrug

I'd just rather play something like F-Zero. :yeshrug I have no idea why Nintendo thinks the items in Mario Kart make it fun and Mario Kart has been topped numerous times over the years, whether it's Crash Team Racing or Sonic All Star Racing Transformed. Arcade gameplay has never been a Nintendo positive or strength, so I don't entirely blame them for the shoddy quality of the games, but for the love all that's holy you'd think they'd up their game at least on their franchise racing game. Maybe Mario Kart 8 will prove me wrong, but the more I played Mario Kart 7 the less of it I liked. It was also the first Mario Kart I owned since the original.

I have no idea why Nintendo thinks the items in Mario Kart make it fun and Mario Kart has been topped numerous times over the years, whether it's Crash Team Racing or Sonic All Star Racing Transformed.

Items in MK are fun for the majority of people, and they're one of the factors for why MK is still alive and kicking while F-Zero, Wipeout, CTR, and Sonic Racing are all dead.

Maybe Mario Kart 8 will prove me wrong, but the more I played Mario Kart 7 the less of it I liked. It was also the first Mario Kart I owned since the original.

Off the top of my head, MK8 has an item that can kill the Blue Shell (and you can get it while in first place), and you can't drag an item while holding another (which cuts down on the amount of queued red shells a racer can let fly.) I'm meh on the latter but both of them make for a slightly less hectic experience if you're a noob.

The item balance also seems a lot better to me in MK8, but I skipped 7 and so was coming from MK Wii where it might have been the worst of the series (it's also where that vid you're so eager to post is from.) The only really annoying item is the Lightning Bolt, which bewilderingly took a step back from MK Wii and can zap all other racers, not just the ones in front of you. Boneheaded item that needs to go or a severe retooling.

I don't know whether it'll be your cup of tea but it's certainly not dogshit for failing to appeal to your narrow sensibilities. :yeshrug

I really liked Double Dash and don't mind the rubberband items. I don't think I'll ever understand the need to stamp out chance from games.

There's nothing wrong with items. All the games I have listened have items except maybe F-zero in the traditional sense. The problem is balance, and Mario Kart is poorly balanced.

Double Dash was very fun with four players. I don't really like any other mario kart game though, CTR is better than the early ones and Sonic all-star is better than the later ones.

I don't think it's completely fair calling Wipeout Mario Kart inspired. It certainly had inspiration from it in certain areas, but Wipeout is a game all about speed and skill. I'd take XL and 3 over any MK.

psygnosis put weapons in wipeout cus they were playing a lot of mario kart while making it. but yes, they aren't similar in any meaningful ways.

There are far fewer weapons you have to eat ala blue shell, but wipeout also doesn't default to respawning when you blow up so taking shots is more meaningful than mario kart.

It's an utterly sad situation. There's Trackmania I guess.

Eh, the fact that they keep making mario kart games doesn't make the games more enjoyable. I'm fine with there not being any more wipeout games because the ones that are available are terrific. Same goes for other series as well, virtua fighter 5fs is a fine end for that series for instance.

They still make these games in Japan, for arcades.  Several other drifting/racing games too.  And Namco continues to make their own Mario Kart arcade games.  No idea why none of this stuff never comes out on consoles.

That's a little too over-the-top.  Mario Kart 8 is good stuff.

But Sonic Transformed is still better.
