Looks awesome, but I can't justify $20 for a small MP game that'll probably be dead in a month.

Steam sale it is.

Didn't realize it was on PC too.
20 bills is super steep yeah.
Like I said I got this shit free and it feels like a popcorn status game you fuck around with when you got people over.

it's really fun.  last sports game I had this much fun with was the mario soccer game on wii.

I tried the advanced tutorials and realized I probably won't ever get "good" at this game, with all the boost flying and stuff.  but simpler tricks, like driving on the wall, doing a bicycle kick to push it to the center, seem pretty intuitive since it's all physics driven.

downside for now are the iffy servers.  both the first day and for sometime yesterday they were down.  playing with AI isn't that bad but they get tripped out and you can have your own team members score goals for the opposing team.

Quoting myself from whatchu been playing:

Quote
Rocket League is some wacky other level Dreamcast early 2000s shit with crisp presentation. Very polished and easy to grasp arcade like game. Has 4 player local co-op too for all those crazy gamer parties :cody

This, Nidhogg, & Mount Your Friends are my go-to local co-op games (Road Redemption stay flabby).

I keep playing it. Pulling off hat tricks is so satisfying. The concept is dumb AF, yet the execution is real solid.

An accessible game with surprising depth to its mechanics. It's like a derby FIFA where you actually control your shots with physics and not animations.

Runs maxed out 60 frames on i5 2500k (@ 4.6) and a GTX 960. Gonna get my PS4 bro to download it.

the thing I dislike most about this game are replays, that all players have to hit skip to skip them instead of a majority vote.  there's always that one guy who won't skip when seven others did.

Memetastic cuz of all the zany LOL moments that happen in each 5 minute game of derby soccer :yeshrug

Can't really fault streamers from showcasing this b/c the gameplay and physics deliver regularly.

Game is dumb, but well done and addictive. Lot of stupid shit to unlock, p much everytime you play a game, and it's fun as long as matchups are balanced and aren't blow outs.

This would be in arcades if arcades were still a thing.

I quite like TwitchStreamGame as a genre. Not everything is terribly substantial, and in some cases even the initial novelty is a bit shit, but every once in a while something nice hits. This one looks like something that could be fun for a while.  :thumbsup

$5 is real solid for this game. $20 is too steep, but I'm still playing it online more than anything else. Don't like how online doesn't work at times and almost never shows players online/playlist population. It used to but hasn't for awhile now.

removing the 'players online' bit was supposedly a way for them to lighten the load on servers or whatever. It seems like they are still trying to get all the online stuff up and running properly, so I expect it will be back at some point.

Game has serious buzz. It's come out of nowhere to really be a phenom.

I like that you get to see everybody's real personality come out and that Alex is a whiny asshole. Just like he is on the site.

People are starved for soccer-type games that are not FIFA.

I remember playing Super Mario Strikers all the fucking time in my college dorm. Everyone loved that shit. Sega Soccer Slam was awesome too.

I've always loved either future sports games, or super arcadey takes on sports like NBA Jam. Hopefully this leads to a resurgence in that genre.

on ps4 because of plus.  it isn't a solid 60fps like you can probably achieve on PC.  otherwise with the cross platform play I don't think it's much of a difference.  ps4 even has text chat.

PS4 and PC versions have crossplay, so you'll get the same online experience regardless of which version you get.

Played for 2 hours yesterday, I'm completely sold. We had more laughing, more swearing, and more fun than we've had in ages. Seems like dragging people into your lobby, keeping people together, dropping out is all super easy.

I'm having wifi router problems lately, but game played pretty well even with my abysmal 172 ping. Jumping, rolling, and jump-flipping is absolutely a blast; jumping an opponent and "heading" the ball down field is just amazing fun, esp. when you can hear them reacting to it.

I caved and preordered a Steam controller just because ooooh new plaything. I am going to get $50 worth of playtime out of this, easily. Holy fuck. I only stopped playing because I need to be up in 5 hours. I saw progress so quickly in the hour or so I played. Ended on a 4 goal game. Oh man oh man.

Cool but I wish you could have a friends list that was cross platform instead of just being stuck playing with friends specifically on your platform.

I want that so badly but it's almost definitely not going to happen. I believe it was reddit where I saw one of tne the Psyonics guys mentioned that in order to accomplish that they'd have to completely overhaul the friends/matchmaking system to something internal since right now it's all based on the Steam/PSN friends lists. Sucks, but maybe if there's ever a sequel? Though lord knows there's no need for one.

I like soccer casually, like: I don't really watch it unless it's on TV because it's the only sport I can stand-casual. And I enjoy Rocket League. So... yeah?

It's like NBA Jam on the Genesis/SNES: Not really a simulation of the sport it's doing.

This.

I mean it may help a little bit your enjoyment if you like soccer but at its core the game is akin to an arcade experience with a bit of depth.

Plus, I mean it's basically a flying/rocket version of:

I mean how can you not like the utter chaos of cars slamming into each other trying to get control of the ball? (They really need a mutator that turns off the rocket boosts, makes the ball heavy/non-floaty like normal)

Been playing this A LOT recently.

I'm stuck in this frustrating part of the progression curve where I'm good enough to do the normal stuff pretty well but the aerial part of the game is just beyond me no matter how much I practice it.

Pretty much why I enjoy Hockey League and why I'm gonna avoid Basketball League as best as I can. Can't do Aerials for shit and it's not worth my while while dribbling or quickly jump-shotting the puck is easier for me.
