Super Smash Bros. Melee: http://www.twitch.tv/Srkevo2

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: http://www.twitch.tv/Srkevo4

An upset that happened earlier is Nietono, top Japanese Smash 4 player who got Top 8 at APEX in Feburary, got knocked out in pools.

Watching Smash :zzz

Fun seeing the stuff people are doing in Tekken 7.  Waiting on Street Fighter because of how random the pools are.  Lots of shitty players at the start.

Watching Smash :zzz

Every single time I see this comment (and it's quite prevalent in the FGC) I just don't get it. Melee is way faster than games like MKX and P4A. ??? The player storylines are great and the gameplay is legitimately fun and varied to watch. How is it :zzz?

The acrobatics in Smash seem really reflex and execution based, so much so that mindgames seem nonexistent, at least for casual Smash fans/casual Smash watchers. I also think MKX is really boring to watch.

Some people think Street Fighter is an insanely boring game to watch. For me, its one of the most exciting games on the planet to watch. Comes down to preference of mechanics, mindgames, what the fundamentals look like, even character selection.

I can see that. Street Fighter is often boring to me outside a big tourney's top 8 or 16. But I can definitely confirm the mindgames are running wild during high level Smash play.

The fact that it's so reflex-based is a point in its favor for me. It's kinda like a real sport where physical dexterity and muscle memory have a huge sway over the results of a match.

Yeah but it's not like I'd reply to BobFromPikeCreek's post with "Street Fighter :zzz"

Yet it happens all the time to Smash.

Smh, Smash has been awesome. Never cared for the hate that it gets here. I'm not watching Melee cause I've moved on from that. I wanna see people do shit that I haven't thought to try with the characters I use.

As lyte edge said, SF is pretty random now. I'll watch the finals.

Watching Smash :zzz

.

P4U's pools are going on too long. Way too long with button checks going on. People REALLY need to know their set-ups and make those binds quicker without having to load into the game to see if it works.

In fact, Virtua Fighter 5 had the PERFECT way of checking that by binding your shit and then seeing PKG pop-up to allow you to press a button to see what keys light up to show the bind. Muuuuch better way of going about it than most other fighters.

Is there a schedule of when specific people are playing? My friend is out there for SF and I'd like to watch.

edit: nm. found him.

I wouldn't take brackets as gospel. P4U's pools are going on still and they said they were apparently on the last one in the UI for the stream about 2 hours(!) ago.

Anyways, Zero will probably take Smash 4 but the Top 8 should be diverse and fun to watch (same as CEO.) If someone beats Zero or even sends him to loser's that'll be a huge upset.

I'm pulling for Leffen or Hbox to take Melee. Never been a Mango fan. Leffen's transformation from not making it to top 8 at Evo last year, to taking CEO, FC Return, and WTFox in the last month has been incredible to watch. 4-stocking Armada?! Dude is truly the God Slayer.

Hbox always comes so close but can never seal the deal. He's such a cool, down to earth dude (plus he told Reggie to his face "You suck at Smash Bros") I'd love to see him take Evo. Was really pulling for him in Grand Finals last year. :(

I'm not hating on Smash.  I like playing it...I just think watching it can be a snoozefest.  I want more strategy and/or crazy combo shit.  I never play Marvel but HOLY SHIT is it fun to watch-- some games are better for spectating than others.

Mike Ross really is being kinda harsh in some of these matches.   :lol

I can see thinking that about Brawl or Smash 4, but Melee? Crazy combo shit happens literally every 20 seconds in a top 16 match.

Different strokes I suppose.

Persona 4 AU looks a lot more reserved when it comes to player versus player combat. Having only played single player, I assumed shit would be like Marvel when it came to combos. Really neat footsies and neutral stuff.

As a post-script, what I was saying with the entrant numbers wasn't that "Smash is the most popular fighting game," because it clearly isn't. In context with the rest of that post my point was that not only is Smash a "real" fighting game (which it clearly is), but it deserves the same reputation and respect as any other. The FGC has spit on Smash's face over and over and yet the scene continues to blossom in spite of the haters. Nearly 15 years after release, Melee's popularity has snowballed such that Evo 2015 is its biggest tournament ever. Better get used to it, because Mr. Wizard says Smash at Evo is here to stay for a long time. Quite the turnaround from only two years ago when Melee had to claw its way into the tournament by literally raising more money than Skullgirls.

Anyways, this argument was beyond overdone a decade ago, so I won't comment on it again in this thread. Let's all enjoy EVO, it's clearly diverse enough to cater to many different tastes.

Static Manny playing a campy+stally Sonic in Game 2 only to have it turned on him by Ally (as Mario) in Game 3 was so, so satisfying. Thank goodness he was eliminated, that's not the type of playstyle I want to see in Top 8. Everyone in the Twitch chat was posting Canada flags. :lol (Manny is American, Ally is Canadian.) You know things are bad when the crowd and Twitch chat are rooting against their own country.
