Yeah, I agree. It's a more versatile mechanic but the skill level barrier it adds isn't worth it imo.

It's a shame no one really played Garou, I wonder if just defend was actually any better than parrying.

K-Groove in CvS2 was absurdly strong with some characters with Just Defend and Rageburst. Some of the more defensive characters like Hibiki could basically wreck you and get their life back.

Also yeah, this Evo was fucking nuts. Shame MK X and Sm4sh had boring grand finals because everything else was great with the death of the old gods in Marvel and that amazing top 8. GGXrd being intense (Poor Woshige). Killer Instinct having a ridiculous BlazBlue in 2014 style grand finals and Ultra SF4 being amazing. MKX, Melee and Sm4sh were kinda forgettable (Nintendo's gonna have to make a very convincing argument for 4 to come back next year). Great year this year

Don't think this was posted in the thread but it's doing the rounds elsewhere. Probably the comeback of the weekend. Volume warning because this shit is loud.

Ugh. I'm still salty about that disconnect. I feel like they did the wrong call (despite the rules) and should've reset the match at 2-2 for both to be on even ground for momentum sake. I feel like it's the wrong judgement call.

K-groove was hamstrung by not having roll cancelling. The strongest of the grooves that couldn't, but increasingly marginalized over time.

Apparently, according to viewership, all of the games got a HUGE boost compared to last year. I wonder if we're going to have a new era of fighting game boom due to competitive play popularity really getting big?

Someone explain the disconnect. Did someone just press pause or something?

We already got that when SF4 dropped on home consoles.  I don't think things are going to get bigger for a while.  While stream numbers may be up, I don't think that other fighting games have sold as well as vanilla SF4 did.  Plus SFV is only going to be on one home console this time around.

The amount of salty voice messages it generated in the early days of Xbox Live while the game was relatively new tho'

No, his joystick stopped working.  The game will automatically pause if a controller is disconnected or breaks.  We know he didn't cheat because the Xbox 360 stated that a controller had been unplugged when this happened.

Healing makes me so salty it's not even healthy.

:umad

So many people are still bitching about that. It's an annoying gimmick, but nothing breaking. It just makes the other player have to work harder. Besides, if you rewatch the matches Infiltration pretty much knocked Elena's healing off 2/3rd of the time Elena would pull that shit. People need to stop crying about her getting proper setups (distance, really) to allow her to pull that to it's max.

The best game mechanics are the ones that make people get all pissy. Like noob tubing in old CoD games. The freakouts just made me want to do it even more.

I don't know how to use Elena in Ultra and that healing shit made it easy for me to screw around and win with relative ease.

nah it's actually very professionally put together. i mean there is a animedork conglomerate that infests a corner playing some waifu slime fighter, but the vendors are all professional and fun to talk to. some random nifty shirts and various swag. demos of upcoming games, etc.
yeah it was nice this year, many more vendors and booths than previous years. that room is pretty much an FG convention now. but whatever, i got two weeb shirts, some trinkets, and some arcade parts so i'm happy.

Huh. The way Infiltration would punish it (if he stopped being passive) to where the heal was basically only 1/10th of the full heal Gamerbee got off, it seemed like it'd be EXTREMELY easy to punish to me. :yeshrug The Elena has to commit to the healing (thereby setting you up) and if they do you can go aggressive (whereby the stop healing) and you punish (removing the heal) off them.

I mean I can see the dickish/trollish nature of it. But I don't think it's as powerful as people are complaining about. If anything, it's Ultra gain seems WAYYYY faster than every other Ultra in the game.

You definitely need to put in extra work against Elena heals but it isn't impossible

Nah, definitely not...but we can see from those Evo finals just how insane that ultra can be in the right hands.  Typically when I play against Elena my goal is to stay right on her.  Of course in Gamerbee's case, he was waiting until he had a successful knockdown to heal most of the time, so that wouldn't matter.
