Forum posting saves the world from a lot of bad art
« on: July 20, 2015, 02:58:19 PM »
This will be my 20th year posting on a forum of some kind. I guess you would consider it a hobby?  It provides a means of expressing myself and requires some creativity without the risk of failure or embarassment. A lazy man's sketchbook or easel.

I sometimes wonder what else would have occupied my time instead. How else would I scratch that creative part of my brain that needs to be itched once in awhile. Dioramas of famous historical scenes made from macaroni shells? Portraits of Gena Gershon done in salt or sugar? Wooden furniture splattered with real human blood and then encased in lacquer forever? These would probably be the things I would create and attempt to share with the world.  (Ironically these are the kinds of things that would probably gain you front page status on a forum like Reddit)

But instead, I post random opinions on random subjects and get the same kind of charge. My shitty sci-fi novel never had to be shared with the world, my hand-painted sand dollars of beach scenes never materialized, my crude drawings of cartoon characters doing unseemly things never happened.

The world is a better place for it.

People just 'hung out' a lot more. You would just drop by someone's house unannounced and talk for a few hours. You would go to places like malls, parks, convienence stores and just sit there and maybe bump into other bored people. Older people would go to social clubs and drink and eat shitty food. They joined bowling leagues.  Speaking of social clubs, I wonder how those places are going to survive in the next 30 years. Will someone my age actually be hanging out at an Elk's Club or a VFW?

One of my friends used to have a binder full of works I've done. Fucked up little shit drawings that should have been reserved for psychotherapy, but I would draw in class and study hall and pass them around.

I'd draw life size nude models on the study hall desks trying my chops at some serious anatomy drawing. Naked women in seductive poses for the not quite retired hall monitors to spray down and clean up :itagaki

Now I draw less and less and spend my time unproductively, but sometimes I get motivated and do something for the benefit of the world wide web:

This lovely alternative druggie chick at a party was making out with her hook up buddy at the time. They weren't together so I didn't treat them as such. I had met her a few times before, but mostly just in passing as she was a friend to my other friend.

She got really sloshed up at this party and was trying to flirt with me by throwing pillows and lame shit. I wasn't drunk and wasn't trying to get sloshed, which was my main mistake, so I didn't really engage that shit.

Then later on in the night as people were leaving a room, she stares me in the eyes and runs her hand alongside my dick bulge, caressing it softly.

I was molested and realized this sloppy babe was probably DTF :bluesteel

Like a week later I'm hanging out with her and mutual friend and he decides to show her said binder full of fucked up drawings. I swear that ruined all chances I ever had with this woman.
Basically a week or two later I asked her to hang out and got rejected. Friend assured me she is a big flirt with guys when drunk, but it still kind of stung. Thought we shared a moment there :tocry

In the end, you'll remember that moment you shared more then if you actually had sex with her.

I have forgotten the names of some girls I have had sex with, but I never forget the ones I ALMOST had sex with.

Ya if I didn't post on the bore I would have already been married and divorced.  I could have two children and another one that I actually knew about.  I would also have been super rich and have cured AIDS.

I have forgotten the names of some girls I have had sex with, but I never forget the ones I ALMOST had sex with.

Is that cuz of regret or something to do with the chase being better than the catch? I remember the ALMOST ones, but these are mostly painful memories of inaction on my part.

Had one girl inviting me to come over to "nap together", another one straight up propositioning (but she was way too thick at this point--talking morbidly obsese), and then a married chick with her fiance in the next room :larry

OK, sometimes not hooking up is for the better, but I want to feel like I have free will in these situations if that makes sense. I tend to blame myself when things fall through.

I've been on forums since 1998 when I was 12.  It was some Singaporean Pokemon board if I recall correctly.  I've been on the many GAF iterations since 2000.

As much as I whine about the time wasted on the internet (and I did waste time), it was probably no big loss.  I would have just replaced forum shitposting with looking at more porn, watching more TV, and maybe play more video games.  Honestly I doubt I would have done anything that was actually productive.

The only reason I got on forums was because I wanted a game shark for my GameCube because I was so bored of it and that didn't exist yet so I needed to bitch at them for it. Was gayer for Nintendo than Andrex ever was. People still actually believed back then. I won some stupid contest and they hacked my Animal Crossing memory card. GAF used the same irc server as them.

First post I made was as "sqauresoftfan" [yes, I misspelled it] on a Dreamcast forum about Chocobo Racing. One of my complaints was that it "didn't have enough CG for my tastes." People pointed at the Chocobo Racing was a PS1 game, not a Dreamcast game. I was so embarrassed that I never posted there again.

Got into Neopets around 2002/03. Met some chicks, or middle aged men who knows, that I talked to on AIM and at the time all the forum posters were into using "::" at the start and end of sentences where you stated what you were doing like:

"::flips head back and laughs to self:: Your moves don't amuse me, kid. U___________u ::chuckles::"

Used to pretend cyber with this one girl and act like we couldn't spell well. Was hilarious when I was 11 in a post 911 environment.

Cultivated my anarcho-punk music taste at the time and got into minor HTML designing my homepage. One girl wanted to meet up, but I had lied about my weight and was kind of embarassed if we were to meet face to face.

I called her from a pay phone, but luckily I avoided early 2000s preteen web based meetups because I could of gotten touched in not even a consensual way.

First time I was really tempted to fuck with the internet though was this ad my friends that I saw in third grade in a wrestling mag (1999-2000). It was half a woman in bikini and the censored bits had text saying to go to this website if you wanna see more. Tried to connect, but AOL Online took way too long for me to do it without worrying about my dad walking in. First time I saw porn was tantalizing GOAT moments top 10 in my lifetime (2002).

Thinking life is great and its existence justified because you seein' digital titties for the first time :phil

My first forum was some DBZ board. I thought I was so clever and smart by making a second account and trying to make people guess that it was actually me. :lol I think the second account was "Mr. X" or some shit. Fun times.

Then I fell into the trap of making my own forums using Invisionfree. Only I had no e-cred or e-crew so they were all completely barren. Still not as sad as Evildemi, but looking back, it was pretty pathetic.

I think I first posted as Andrex on Toywiz's Yugioh site. Stayed there for years before moving onto G4, then GAF.

Then WYL. And finally The Bore. :aah
