Home Movies fucking ROCKED
« on: August 12, 2015, 12:40:20 PM »
Steve Contra posts an image that has nothing to do with Home Movies, the art style reminds me of Home Movies, and suddenly I want to binge watch Home Movies.

I love this show so, so much. Easily the best of early Adult Swim for me besides Cowboy Bebop for me.

Rick and Morty, The Eric Andre Show, Venture Bros. are all great. They also only air once every 18 months

Adult Swim is really inconsistent these days, but The Eric Andre Show and Rick & Morty are the best shows they've had in a long, long time.

Home Movies is good, but I prefer Metalocalypse.

Both Home Movies and Metalocalypse are great, but they're not similar shows so I don't get comparing them.

They're both by Brendon Small. He created Home Movies with Loren Bouchard, who went on to make Bob's Burgers.

coincides perfectly with the golden age of level plane records. the two are inexorably linked in my mind as some kind of cultural high water mark of society.

As I was talking to Andrex about, I think Home Movies has aged REALLY well. It brings a lot of nostalgia for some reason, and I'm rarely nostalgic for that distinct period of my life (early 2000's, 15-19 years old) and yet Home Movies is managing to do it. It's still hilarious, it's still as charming as it ever was. It really shows that the show was quality - period. Ultimately, it makes a lot of sense. I mean, Home Movies could never really subsist on fancy animation or anything and lived and died by its writing quality.

I watched the episode where Brendon calls the bully and the bully is concerned and shit, reminding him to check with his health insurance and "do you have any seizure warnings?" and covering all bases and shit and then happens to invite him, Melissa, and Jason to his birthday party. :lol Still a really strong episode.

By the way, I thought about it, Tasty, and I realize why I get so nostalgic for Home Movies. I think for me, it WAS Adult Swim. Aside from Cowboy Bebop of course. Cowboy Bebop is Adult Swim to me. But Home Movies is a close second and it was on the air longer. I realized that out of the non-anime AS shows, it was my favorite. I never really got into the absurdist qualities of shows like Aqua Teen. I mean, they were good, but I always have and always will prefer character-based stories over sheer absurdity. That's not to say that stuff like Aqua Teen, Sea Lab;etc. weren't in my regular rotation, I just never watched them as consistently or gave a fuck about them nearly as much as I did Home Movies. This trend continues even today, where I mostly ignore Adult Swim's more absurd qualities in favor of stuff like The Boondocks or whatever.

Already a fan of Venture. Haven't seen it since season 3 though because the seasons are so infrequent and random that I can't catch up.

I own all of Vbros on dvd/bluray and the way Himu feels about HM is kinda how I feel about it. I've literally been watching it since I was 14/15 (first ep aired in 04). Which is crazy because it's been so long and there are only 5 seasons and like 60 episodes lmao

Supposedly not really Doc Hammer/Publick's fault though. It takes them like a year and a half to make like ten episodes and Adult Swim will wait like 3 months after a season airs to tell if they want more. So they essentially stop production/writing and go on vacation for half a year between production of every season. So we get stuck with like 2 and a half year gaps between each season.
