Probably because the Academy realized The Departed is just a remake. Also, Leo got nominated for another film - roffles.

It didn't get either of the two mot important, Director or Best Picture.

Leo DiCaprio got nominated for Blood Diamond, so that means The Departed is a sub-par film.

almost all of its nominations are for songs or technical nonsense.

In terms of the big awards babel and the departed lead.

I would say dreamgirls got shunned by the oscars, technical/song nominations are meaningless.

People only remember stuff like best film or best director. Of which dreamgirls didn't even get nominated.

The Departed is this years Brokeback Mountain with Babel(or little miss sunshine) being Crash, the dark horse upset film.
Dreamgirls isn't even in the picture.

The Departed is the (2nd) best film of the year with or without the academy's recognition.

Actually, Children of Men was better. See it. DiCaprio was nominated in Blood Diamond.
