my Wii has been broken for like three years because i can't get the replacement $2 bluetooth module attached properly since you can't see the fucking connector if you just take off the front panel rather than disassembling the entire case

i might as well just buy a usb bluetooth adapter (for the wiimote) and switch completely to dolphin since i can run almost everything on that anyway, even my laptop with an i3 can play a lot of stuff at 60fps at original resolution...and it's got a built in bluetooth adapter

would really prefer to rip my discs (including gamecube) though since it'd be faster (i assume) than downloading it all and the usb hard drive i formatted fat32 for the wii ages back is sitting around 70% empty regardless (other than stuff i had on it like zelda and order up! (the best Wii game) and all of boardwalk empire which was for playing through my usb connector on a $20 hdmi dvd player i have)

my PS2 slim has a wonky video out connector and has since like a year after i bought it

OG Xbox is the only thing still chugging around like it's not 15 years old, dat fan blasting out and the hard drive going crazy when u turn it on

Since the Wii U was designed to be an "extension" of Wii from the start (down to the name, reuse of controllers, etc.) it probably made sense at the time to extend the Wii's infrastructure for "free" BC support.

They made the same decision with the Wii in regards to the GameCube. They've been on the same console infrastructure since 2001.

Don't mistake a difference of opinion for some personal thing, I don't know the guy personally and had never heard of him to be honest. However, he gets to post his opinion to 100s of thousands of people and influence them, I get to post my response to it to a few hundred and have them jump down my throat, lol.

The problem with people like Jim, and to a greater extent IGN, is that when they give overtly negative reviews to games that are almost purposely done for attention or clicks, is that their reviews actually can dissuade sales. Their words can hurt a game, a developer, a studio, whatever. And when they give a game a 4/10 that, on no planet or plane of existence, deserves a 4/10, it skews the metascore. Which also hurts sales. If you hate a certain genre... Don't review the game!

I think you pinpointed my REAL issue. Metacritic. And Rotten Tomatoes. And aggregate sites like them. But you gave me a great idea. I think I'm going to create a site where I review reviews. Or does that already exist? Because I'd love watching someone tear into Angry Joe or Ryan McCaffrey. I'm still bitter over his Alien Isolation score.

Critical takes of reviews or at least certain reviewers could be an interesting site but you'd mainly have "fact-checkers" where they just dispute the reviewers opinion rather than something like examining the flawed logic or in the case of those past freelance reviewers exposing that they didn't actually even play the game for more than five minutes like the one for that probably now defunct MMO. Rather than counter-criticism like you get in film/music that focuses more on component parts. (Or even in multiple reviewer reviews like old EGM/GI.)

I would love an "unskewed metacritic" site though. That adjusts for each sites anti-sony or anti-indie or anti-Nintendo bias. I feel like my life would be complete.

Well, that and me starting my review site with the 9 (bad)-9.25 (average)-9.5 (good)-9.75 (excellent)-10 (classic) scale but on metacritic unchanged and completely dominated by my weird tastes like QT3.

Actually, I'd probably rather see sites/reviewers revisit their own reviews, not change them like Polygon, but go back and reflect on it after six months or a year or two.

A lot of times when media does this they go back like ten years or more, rather than re-evaluate say their 2014 top ten list or something. And it's not even the same staff.

Game Informer's one look back worked because like half the staff was still there. And the editors didn't mind quoting all their times saying CD-ROMs were never going to take over carts. And then how online wouldn't take off. How Sony and Microsoft didn't "get" gaming like Sega and Nintendo, etc.

The mention of Super Best Friends Play is pretty bizarre too. I don't watch everything from them but have seen a fair bit. TBF/SBF never were especially highbrow or above insensitives jokes on sexuality (they're dudes chatting shit for hours and hours every week), that doesn't make them alt-right pushing an agenda covertly.

Same with AVGN, someone in that same thread is saying he's now frequenting "Gamergate people". I don't know what it means and if it is true, but bar the overblown controversy on the latest Ghostbusters which ascribed dark motives to the man, there was anything "political" about his game or movie reviews. To take one of the actual professional outfits mentioned, Giant Bomb has producing basically daily or every other day content since 2008, the cast has completely changed twice for good and bad reasons, they've added more and more content and features regularly. You have people saying "I used to watch every Quick Look as soon as it came out, even if I wasn't interested in the game, now it's just like enough already." Well, NO SHIT.

There's no Ryan and Vinny and Dave as they were once for one thing. Even Alexis and Patrick have been gone for over two years. Dan and Jason joining with Drew actually "joining" the on-air team for the West-side is a shift of like half the cast from just three years ago.

You're not really watching the "same show" anymore just the same formats. If the replacements don't click for you, that's not their fault. Lots of people hated Patrick until he left and they got Dan to hate on.

Angry Joe in the last month has posted 23 videos of 5 minutes or longer. And one video of him just talking about delays due to his eye surgery. He and his "team" has probably produced at this rate for how long? Clicking back just a few months, they're all like this. Most of those videos are 18+ minutes. He's basically producing many a sitcom's entire season worth of content per month. And it's mostly all them talking about other things. Of course you're going to burn out on this, he probably burns out on it and he has complete control over the rate of production.
