In an alternate reality, there is a strong left wing party who is serious about the threat of Climate Change, serious about ending mass incarceration (and by extension ending the war on drugs), providing quality social safety nets, give two shits about workers rights and are not hellbent on policing the world.  Instead we get this limped dicked "Not-Republicans!" faction who get to drag their feet and bend over backwards for corporate interests.  They're ultimately not held accountable because they just happen to be opposite of evil, cackling Captain Planet villains.

When people say the Wii (or any Nintendo system) had no appeal to """core gamers""" what they really mean is a carefully cultivated audience of teenage-to-thirty-something middle class straight men who like to engage in toxic masculine power fantasies with high production values. The divide between core and casual gamers to begin with is just nerd elitism crafted by a bunch of insecure young men who were angry that that Nintendo let a bunch of women, children and old people into "their" space. So they needed a way to declare themselves different; superior. So they're "core" which means they're ~real gamers.~

In my own anecdotal experience, a lot women prefer Nintendo platforms like the Wii and 3DS, myself included. The Wii was also plenty liked even by gaming enthusiasts whose tastes differed from the mainstream aforementioned power fantasies- people who preferred traditional/retro/arcade type of experiences, and those who liked colorful, niche Japanese games. And yes, Nintendo fans still count as enthusiasts or "core gamers" if you prefer.

Interestingly, slightly related, the most popular platform with women is mobile, which is also the least "real" gaming platform according to "core gamers."

In my view GAF is now a population dominated by vocal and increasingly militant left wing populist groups, who's individual members more and more are expressing themselves below a threshold of basic critical thinking. A collective culture fostered and furthered by moderation that enabled this behavior and furthers these trends by selective herding, culling, virtue signaling, and groupthink promoting. Culminating in this weird Frankenstein of liberalism you speak about IMO.

I'm just curious what the end result of this vicious cycle is going to look like? The costume thread without anyone left to call out the bullshit seems about right. The Gaming Side's final form is a mystery to me still.

It's kinda fucked up that there can be a topic in OT that opens under the guise of trying to engender empathy amongst black people who dissent against BLM/Kaep/etc, and then insinuates any black person who isn't in lock-step with those things is shucking and jiving for the approval of white folk. I just watched the H3H3 video last night before I went to bed, and I now understand why GAF is so up in arms about it. It's not because they made ANOTHER video about a crazy feminist. It's because Ethan, in very plain language, calls them out exactly for what they are. He elucidates, in a humorous manner, how moronic people that overreact to stupid shit can be. And as we all know, overreacting to stupid shit is GAF's bread and butter. This H3H3 video is an attack on GAF (I'm sure Ethan doesn't know wtf GAF is, but I wouldn't even be surprised if they thought they were important enough to think that).

Some choice quotes from the video, that would predictably trigger the fuck out of GAF:

"This is more of a cult than some kind of social movement"

"Being a white male in SJW terms is like the original sin. It's like you were born guilty, you need to absolve your sins."

"If you're white or male kill yourself"

On top of that, Ethan used the word "female" to describe a woman, used the word "triggered" ironically, used the word "problematic" ironically, and used the word "SJW" unironically multiple times. Each one of those instances by itself is enough to make Ethan problematic. But together they forever mark him as an alt-right/MRA/Pepe enemy of the state in GAF terms.

That post I quoted above is very telling. The world at large, the normies, are getting increasingly fed up with the temper tantrums, virtue signaling, the outrage culture, but GAF and other online communities are so far up their own asses that they think that it's everyone else that's crazy, not them.

I saw her crusade on gaf as a preview of things to come as the forum got progressively heavy handed in tone and direction towards what it is today. Someone's first amendment rights don't magically go away if they decide not to vote.  It is really fucking bizarre to see how many argue that should be the case, though I guess it is an unsurprising opinion given how hard some of these people swing authoritarian. 

Call eligible voters who stay home hypocrites if you want but they have the same rights as you at the end of the day.
