There has to be something at stake for exploration heavy games to work. No Mans Sky seems like a walking simulator combined with Minecraft lite resource collecting and management. Minecraft works because there's something at stake, and building something extravagant in survival mode requires some commitment and brain juices.

Like, can you even lose enough shit so you're then stranded on a planet in No Man's Sky? What can be ramped up where you need to farm resources for cool ass gear or loot? How many times can you be surprised by visuals versus being surprised by gameplay, mechanics, or random situations that happen due to AI fuckery?

No Man's Sky is a bet on people being in awe of very superficial shit. It's like a Star Trek TV show starring a mute lead, with mute extras, and going on adventures that are differentiated by color alone.

400 dollars for two seems really extreme, yeah. 50 to 75 euros per person is generally enough to have a fancy full menu and liberal wine drinking at a pretty decent place in Paris. But heh if you have a ton of disposable income, great for you.

It's 400 Canadian Dollars.  The Canadian Dollar is 0.76 to 1 USD so it's more like $300 USD.  It's still expensive but Vancouver is insanely expensive so it's probably $100 everywhere else where they don't gouge the fuck out of you.

I had a dinner at a Michelin rated restaurant and it was about 150€.  The food was amazing but I can't say it was really worth the money.  If Tabris is making a habit out of $400 CAD dinners for his dates, then he's throwing a lot of money away.

Most people agree that 5's gameplay is top-notch, even if it has flaws (ranking, world building). The backlash for 5 (despite Rah wanting it to be in gameplay, bzzzt. Sorry, not happening) is mostly in the story and the "twist" ending.

MGS4 is just an awful game all around. Too bloated, too overwrought drama. Gameplay mechanics you don't really need to use at all if ever. I don't recall Mass Effect 2 having backlash outside of the action-RPG change. If anything Mass Effect 3 is the one that got backlash and that's from people believing Bioware's "your choices matter" Peter Moly's level "promise."
