because who gives a shit about graphics on a nintendo machine. they need to hit a sub 200 price

Even if they hit sub-200, no one is going to buy a Nintendo system. The Wii was a weird anomaly with the waggle gimmick. But now a days that ship has sailed. Nintendo is back in the rut of "no one cares about Nintendo" and even if they go dirt-cheap nobody outside of hardcore superfans a la Andy is going to care.

Parents still buy Nintendo handhelds for their kids. If this thing is the successor to both of their current systems then it's mostly a handheld Trojan horse, not a real home console system.

this

They can't compete with Sony/MS. I wouldn't be stunned if it's less powerful than the WiiU. They basically need a Roku type box. Something they can offer their entire category of games with while also supporting mobile and new traditional Nintendo handheld titles.

That's really the market I'm looking toward their investments at. They really need to let go of Pokemon being on their handheld (sorry, Andy. I know you're wishing upon a star for this hardware, but handhelds in the west are donezo) and just make it mobile/PC and be done with the entire thing.

Let go of Pokemon being on their handheld? Bitch, The Pokemon Company has been making apps for years and Go was announced with a huge amount of positive press.

And anyways, 15 million in the US alone isn't much to sneeze at, especially since 3DS has been on a 35% upswing this year compared to the same months in 2014.

Nostalgic Nintendo fans and manchildren are whats keeping Nintendo afloat, not children.  There is a reason why they keep sticking 8 bit Mario everywhere and anywhere.  Fortunately for Nintendo this group can likely keep them running as a company.  60 year old Nintards are going to be in line to buy Yet Another New Super Mario Bros. 7 in 2035.

I'mma gonna stop you right here. Go is the only one worth a damn because it's the closest to the "Pokemon on mobile" dream everyone has.

3DS being on the upswing means nothing when more people are playing on their mobiles than a dedicated handheld: Hence, Donezo. Nintendo can try that rumored handheld hybrid console, but I seriously doubt it'll light the world on fire when people have their iPhone/Android to play Candy Crush on while playing emulated Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow on the phone.

It blows my mind they haven't just put an emulated rom dump of R/B/Y or even Gold Silver Crystal on the mobile platforms. Nintendo and the Pokemon company would easily print money from nostalgia on that.

Also this. I don't think I've heard ANY kid actually want an Ambiio which is Nintendo copying the Skylanders/Disney Infinity thing. Speaking of which, I'm wondering how those two properties are going since I haven't heard any mania about those since Ambiio launched and nothing but Nintendo fanchildren are bleeting from the mountains about Ambiio but I haven't heard parents saying they're buying their kids Skylanders in that time.

Nintendo has gotten about 30+ years off its properties, I highly doubt Minecraft will be able to sustain its popularity for that long.

Even this I disagree with, somewhat. I have friends who own independent game stores and am pretty active in our local retro gaming community and there's plenty of kids coming in and buying retro consoles/games and getting excited over older properties. The 5 year old spazzing out over finding Duck Hunt in the cheap NES game bin at my friend's store was funny to see. There will always be a market for a 'plug in and play' type system and people who prefer collecting physical media, unfortunately the problem with consoles is nowadays you have to deal with a lot more bullshit than the olden days of plug in the AC adaptor, connect the video cables, put a cartridge in and turn the power on.

Back to Minecraft, I actually have never played it. Though the videos I've seen make it look kinda boring, I'd rather just play with legos.

Children still enjoy the fuck out of Nintendo stuff. As much as the Aimiibo crap is bought by strange unwashed man and women children with that same damn green Zelda shirt(which annoys me as I like wearing my green Phoenix shirt). In my experince managing my Target's electronic section kids still love Nintendo games. Kids still made their parents buy Splatoon, Mario Maker, Smash, Kart, whatever. Kids are still playing the fuck out of the demo system. The Wii U demo system is probably the most popular one.

It's just at the end of the day it is seen as a kids toy and there are cheaper kids toys and I believe especially with multiple kid households, something like the PS4 or Xbox are more worthwhile systems. You've got a teenager or something, parents seem more interested in buying something not for children. It's for them but also the whole household. You're kids growing up, seems like it may be worthwhile not to buy such a kids device.

Nintendo may not have the lockdown on kids thanks to a great many things, but I doubt it's the neogaf nintard who makes up most of it's userbase.

What Nintendo lacks is the audience that buys consoles for NBA 2k16, Fifa, Madden, NHL, CoD, and GTA.

I'm sure there's still kids buying consoles but the market for plug and play will probably continue to bleed to mobiles.

Am I understanding this right? The next Nintendo platform will consist of a standalone console along with a handheld unit.

Same games, but let's say 1080p on console vs. 540p on the handheld unit. Maybe the handheld system will also double down as a controller for the console.

So maybe a handheld more powerful than a Vita, but a console around the power of an Xbone :yeshrug

I'll probably fuck with that :nintendo :expert

To be fair: As someone that did play the Dark Souls 2 beta. The DX9 (haven't tried DX11/Scholar of the First Sin) Dark Souls 2 PC looks just as bad as PS3 post-beta in terms of lighting. I'll give it the edge in having cleaner image quality but in regards to those beta areas if you played the beta there was a NEED for the torches and co-op people in the forest and the bosses. Now there is no reason for them at all because everything is nearly easy to see unless you adjust your display. :yeshrug

Well a Bluray drive+hard drive is mandatory for PS4 porting so that tells you something about the size/price involved. Unless they have a separate but fairly powerful processor in the handheld unit, I'm thinking the handheld/mobile portion is just going to be a touchscreen controller like the WiiU with online game streaming. That gives three scenarios I can think of:

1. The entire console is able to be held in your hands and has a screen+battery+disc drive and whatever. Would be expensive and clunky and will fail.

2.
So maybe a handheld more powerful than a Vita, but a console around the power of an Xbone :yeshrug

3. The console can be remote played using the handheld portion.

I think the third option is the best compromise. The handheld would only be usable outside when you have a WiFi connection because of data charges for video streaming but being next to a router and having 100 ms lag would be the only compromises.

In that case, Nintendo would make sure that at least their own games have a mode that makes them playable with that lag and they would try to market to the consumer that they get two devices in one removing the need to buy a new iPhone every few years for mobile gaming. The handheld unit is competing against touchscreen games as far as controller responsiveness and I could see this combo being appealing to parents who are sick of their kids running down their phone batteries.

But seriously though, it's probably best if they just stuck with being a game publisher rather than a hardware maker.

I don't see Nintendo forsaking all that handheld market (even if it is shrinking) they have an high hand in and honestly the whole NX concept sounds like a way of propping up home consoles sales via the leverage of the handheld base. Makes no sense to not have an autonomous handheld if that's the case. It does raise a lot of questions about how they deliver games and such (I'm not that convinced they are really chasing multiplats AAA games at this point), none of which we can answer with any relevant data, so... Overall I think they are up against an impossible battle.

Honestly I think I started hating consoles when I powered up my PS3 and it needed to install like a 3 hour update to play any game. And then sometimes the game would need an update.

That wasn't the problem for me. The problem for me was declining to update (after the firmware update because meh that one is mostly fast) and the game deciding to pester me to attempt to update every 5-30 mins of gametime.

I already said no, PSN. Why the fuck would I want to update!?

Steam's doing the same thing now: You can't really decline the update. You can have it not auto-update but it won't let you boot if it NEEDS to update/has a patch that Steam has found.

When I was younger, I said the same things I would today, just in a much nicer way. :lol

Nice to see sassy gay guy is taking over.

I wish. I think I'm just becoming more jaded and cynical with less patience for stupidity. :goty2

Younger me was already around 11 or 12 when the internet started popping.
Was still under then GTE internet and it billed you per minute use while listing the sites you visited on the phone bill. So sneaking shit was neigh impossible.  :-\

I have no fond memories of internet as a younger kid aside from hitting up some porn website then getting yelled at when my parents saw it. Probably for the best, 20 years down the line every kid with access to a webcam and youtube has like years worth of cringe to look back on.

OP Posts his history with DS4 controller and it's issues.

GAF, of course, tells him he has weird fingers and their day 1 controller is perfect and that jesus kissed each on personally.

Turn in tomorrow where we see Bish shit on EA access for the 201st time in the name of Sony Bias...error paychecks....err free not-for profit asskissing.
