That's where I come from for most of the shit I like. For some reason something being highly entertaining isn't a feat in of itself, the entertainment has to be justified. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, while having seen most critical acclaimed TV dramas in the past 15 years.

Also, while MGS as a franchise isn't deep when it comes to narrative, the shit that gets talked about and expanded upon in the games is still ahead of the curve intellectually compared to other AAA titles throughout history.

I believe the first Godfather got those nominations too and it was an enjoyable and very well-made movie, but the original book by Mario Spuzo was panned by critics for being trashy shit.

In both cases, I don't think they made the characters feel like a real person but when viewed purely as a spectacle, those movies work. Like how something so absolutely fake and over the top can let you feel like turning off a part of your brain and have fun.
