It's viewed as more of an old people / old couple / peasant routine thing over here, and not a norm, but still well known enough for the reactions in that thread to ??? me. (Not including "sugar daddies" and stuff like that, of course.).

Smoking discussion on the Internet is one of the most pointless thing ever. Once the person is aware of the health and general issues, who cares what he or she does ?

Also a bit amused by BobbyRoberts saying smoking will soon be for the museums. I can see the current Western health policy standards eventually spreading quite fast, but tobacco is as popular and profitable as ever in every other markets right now.

If so, VR will not flop because of an early mediocre implementation in a popular game. So why worry ?

Am I the only one tired of Jim Sterling? The guy is so full of himself and think he is actually important. So he calls The Division not an ambitious game; yet he scores plants vs zombies garden warfare 2 a 9.5 lol.

Better appreciated in small doses, me thinks. Otherwise a tad repetitive and grating as a character (fictional or not) even if he's fighting the good fight.

I thought he voiced his reasoning for why he likes that game a lot pretty well here:

The tl;dw being that its a solid shooter that, surprisingly from EA, was a $60 complete package with tons of gameplay modes, features and things to do without any of the predatory practices that a lot of the big publishers do, such as pre-order DLC, day one DLC, or trying to sell a game with barely any content for $60 (like a certain recent publisher did). Hell, its first big content update is free as well.

And he updated his review to state that the game has microtransactions, which were added literally three days after that video went up.

I wasn't aware that Plants Vs Zombies was being pushed as one of the biggest releases of the year and something that will set the direction of EA for years to come.

Because if it was then I guess we should look at it in a context beyond "is this a fun shooter".

He does have a point buried in his dumb rhetoric, though: people in that thread who are taking a confession made in North Korea at face value are showing their asses.

regardless, people are also calling any criticism of the kid "victim blaming"

sorry, but while people are entitled to wear anything they want without expecting to be assaulted, nobody should feel entitled to go to north korea just because. treating a violent and despotic regime as a tourist destination is idiocy of the highest order.

That's not the problem though ? I imagine he was actually granted access as a tourist by NK authorities, considering how tight the control is. I'd say he was actually entitled to do that, within whatever limits it entails (not breaking the law being one). The issue here really seems to be how heavy the punishment is for a petty offence, regardless of he is guilty or not, which can be another debate.

I remember thinking it was a pretty cool sounding adventure when Drew from Giant Bomb went and did that live show with his photos.  But the more I thought about it the more it sank in that there's no real benefit to it.  It's not a cultural exchange like it was when students and tourists visited the Soviet Union in the 70s and 80s.  It's not humanitarian, either.  Nor is it journalism.  It's gulag porn.
