Steam boxes were all but abandoned. SteamOS hobbles along waiting for serious driver support. I mean... Say about the Xbone what you will, but that thing is a viable product. spoiler (click to show/hide)
The slow death of consoles notwithstanding.
Exactly. And he dickrides the whole initiative. The idea was noble, but Valve fucked up hard. If MS/Sony allows you to upgrade your console AND run Windows/Linux on the damn thing: GG, Valve.
(Too bad that'll never happen, despite the fact it would be hilarious that Valve would be BTFO by their own game/attempt.)
I remember when they announced the pricing on the steam box and I was on had laughing my head off about how valve threw away any chance to selling into a new market or succeeding and was piled upon by people telling me about wrong I was.
The price isn't necessarily the issue. The price was a problem for "cross-gen." But to be fair, the true "next-gen" PC parts still aren't out. They
vastly overcharged to try to make money on licensing that stuff. But Valve should've taken the income loss like console manufacturers in trying to get console gamers on-board with PC with "cheap" PC's. Then hobbiests could've gotten them to mod it/upgrade the entire thing a la X-box.
