As ever, thanks for your patience and understanding as we continue to optimize this ground-up in-house ad setup, which is a non-trivial endeavor. For all of us ad-loathers out there even when they're benign, I've been receiving optimistic reports about the feasibility of implementing GAF Gold in terms of interfacing with our software architecture (mobile in particular) without any drastic site overhauls being prerequisite, so that will start to be explored seriously in the coming weeks.

 Fake virus pop-ups, ads that erase your tab history, and full-page ads you can't exit out of have all been popping every other time I've loaded a page on mobile.

 So much for 160 hour work weeks for infrastructure to OK ads at an individual rate, just screw people over with malicious ads until they decide to pay $$$ for no ads on one site for a limited amount of time.

I'm fine with a paid option with no ads. But it's starting to look like we're getting close to a situation where the pay option is the only way to view the site comfortably, unless you block ads. That's not a good business look.

Or just continue to adblock. It depends on how 'Lore goes through with it. If he makes it annoying nags like "DID YOU KNOW YOU COULD GET RID OF ADS FOR A MONTHLY FEE" like most sites now use, he'll just turn off users and/or have them adblock that and get past it. If he just makes it optional while GAF continues to be what it is, it'll probably be semi-successful while the rest of us just adblock like business-as-usual.

Moderation will either have to lighten up or the users will have to enter some sort of Stockholm syndrome to continue paying for a site that is so willing to shit on them from atop a building. I had gotten a string of small bullshit bans followed by a perm warning so I pretty much knew someone wanted to get rid of me.
