The silence - and in some places, approval - on this from LGBT circles is nuts. The irony of considering prostitution morally bad when people are doing to survive, and you represent a culture that people deem "morally corrupt" is lost on them. The quote from the one escort who assumed queer people would understand how important sex work is for the community is on the mark yet I bet those same people who scoff at it will be quoting Paris Is Burning as if its only message is that drag and trans lingo is badass.
I dunno. I can see the importance of the sex trade and think it should be legal, but at the same time I can see
why some people approve of the raid. There's sexual risks/factors in it that aren't regulated and controlled. I don't know how to properly put it into words, so I guess my gist would be: Gay people aren't that far removed from Straight people when it comes to some sexual issues so long as it doesn't "tread on me."
