Holy cow. We should probably end it here really, ain't gonna get better than that.
Georgia won over Tonga too  :clap not bad.
World cup finally competitive all around ?

France had a good start it seems. That's a terrible sign. The closest we got was last World Cup with the shittiest performance possible.  :larry
Still salty as the Atlantic ocean for that 1 point loss.

Ireland annihilated Canada which sadly means the entire nation is in full "We're finally gonna win it" bandwagoning mode before an overconfident side predictably crashes out to Argentina in the Quarters.

The best way to not be disappointed is to have no expectations at all, brehs.

France - Ireland will probably put back expectations in check for the loser if all goes according to plan until then. If I'm not mistaken, finishing 2nd in that group probably means going against New Zealand in quarterfinal...

Speaking of New Zealand, just gonna fire it here right now : Haka was a mistake, it's nothing but trash. I guess the opposing team is still supposed to stand still with "respect" while being subjected to an uniteral mind game ? Vitriol aside, I'm still confused by such exceptional rules (Not unique to NZ but they stick out way more obviously) being OK in a serious sport.

France and Ireland will be close. Ireland's been inconsistent in the warm ups compared to the six nations as well. So that match will make or break eithers chances. Though in a way, Ireland might be relishing the chance to finally get NZ after that infamous 2013 test.

As for the Haka, Siva Tau and other pre-match rituals. It's tradition at this point and the smaller nations like Samoa and Tonga take it much more seriously than NZ. At the same time, the World Rugby Board allows teams to respond or make their own ritual as long as it's not an interruption to the others. Not many do though. I know Ireland's response to the ritual is that the team will link arms and and step united towards the halfway line during it so by the end of the ritual, both teams are facing off at the halfway line, staring each other down (Especially as NZ responded to the first time Ireland did that by advancing forward during the Haka to match the Ireland team in every encounter on). It's really dependent on the team if they will let themselves get psyched out or have a response.

The Japanese commentators were all just in shock. The ones on-site were crying, and the ones at home, at 2AM, were looking bushwhacked.

I see that the IRB hasn't solved the issue of uneven schedules for small teams. What a joke.

Well, I should have watched that game yesterday I guess.
Poms out before the quarters ?  :-[
Then again France will either play NZ or Argentina if they qualify, none of which ideal, so...

France had a clean, solid defense... And nothing else.

Congrats to Ireland for a clean no contest victory where they were in total control of the tempo of the game, despite subbing key players early. They grinded France and by the end dominated the conquest, throws and the scrum. With a bit less of clumsiness they probably would have scored one or two tries in the first half and inflicted a Berezina.

We gonna get reckt by the Blacks :brazilcry

Or you know, play our best game so far. But anything better than a dignified defeat seems out of reach.

Spanking it is.
Painful to watch but really nothing more was to be expected with such a poor team.

First QF was nice to watch.

Probably a southern hemisphere tsunami on the semis.

NZ were just a level above as well. Absolutely Clinical, ruthless, perfect attacking Rugby.

I expect a tight loss to Argies for the Irish. The game Vs France was a war of attrition and we lost a lot of good players out of it. Argentina's kicking game has been superb throughout and they have been playing fast and clever on the breaks. They seem to be a little weaker at the back so Ireland can maybe try push an aggressive game. But it's Argentina's to lose

And just as I typed that, try and conversion 7-0 to the argies already :brazilcry

I am not even sure NZ can be gauged properly considering how lame France was. Honestly they had a shaky defence in first half ? I dunno. Teams were world apart. French staff going all in on physical was a shitty bet. I'm just a layman so won't speculate on what the matter is but le XV de France has been dreadful for four years and declining earlier.

Too bad for the Irish, they went back well into the game after a dreadful start. As you say the game was Argentina to lose and they flirted with that at points...

Will probably wrap this up then I guess ?

Semis of the WRC were cool games but in hindsight felt like a foregone conclusion ? Boks putting up an amazing defense against the All Blacks but proposing nothing whatsoever in the way of offensive animation or good kicking. Argentina being a joy to watch in their latin extravagance (Stepping up for the now long lost French Flair) but not being very lucid overall against a very complete Wallabies team that made the flashy plays when it counted. In the end, both South Africa and Argentina didn't score any tries and were kept in the run only because of penalties (By the way, always hilarious to see Rugby fans, which are always so smug about football, dissect the refs performance at every game). No question that the two most complete teams went on to the final. The Blacks are definitely favorite, with reason (they're the best, let's be fair, all the more reason to have a hate boner for them  >:() but it should be a nice game.
