Not in that sense, but there was never enough of certain items. Grocery shopping today reminds me of that time. No eggs today? Oh well, might get some tomorrow.

If you knew the right people you knew when certain items were back in stock and you could eat some delicious halva.

Well there was food rationing during the martial law period.

The most funny thing was the toilet paper shortage that made toilet paper into a currency.

In 1983 ( year I was born) only 255 million toilet rolls where produced for a population of 38 million. That's less then 7 rolls per person, per year. You can say a lot of bad things about capitalism but at least one can wipe his ass.
