Real talk it's possible to make an amazing, kickass website without JavaScript. It's preferable in most cases because JS is a screw but people treated it like a hammer. (Straight up web apps like Google Maps obviously are a different class.)

It's not possible to make a good website without CSS. Even the you-dont-really-need-css.com type websites that advocate for this type of thing include a set of minimalistic styles because browser defaults are garbage.

And CSS is fine.
