I was charged with a DUI in early September
« on: October 02, 2015, 12:19:13 AM »
This is my post to vent, and apologize to you all.

I was having a rough night at work.  Lots of questions of capability, lots of reflections of feeling inept.  Got passed over for a promotion.

After I got off at around 5:30 (after coming in at 6), I went to the bar.

From 6pm to 10:30pm, I had 6 beers.  I felt OK, and I chose to drive home.  It was an awful mistake that I regret.

I was pulled over for not coming to a complete stop at a three way stop.  The officer said he smelled alcohol on me so he made me take the field tests.  I passed the vision and one leg stand, but failed the step and turn.

Because of that, I was booked and taken into holding.  I was able to leave at 12am, but I couldn't get a hold of anyone to pick me up.  So I was there from 11pm to 7am with murderers and rapists.  Worst night of my life.

I won't get more than wreckless driving according to my attorney, but I am so disappointed in myself.  I am not a bad person, and I do not respect drunk drivers.  I realize I am not any better than they are, and it makes me fucking furious.  I have now given up drinking while I am in charge of driving, and I keep to three beers if I feel like drinking.

I wanted to apologize to you all for being in this position and being a drunk driver.  I realize I am the fucking worst for doing so, and I am so sorry.   I aim to be a better person going forward

I'm so sorry again.

Humans make mistakes. :yeshrug While I can understand your frustration. Beating yourself up and saying "I'm no better than other drunk drivers" is (IMO) stupid. You made a mistake, you own up to it. Live and learn from this. If they don't slap your license off you and/or throw a breathalyzer on your car, you'll be lucky. Learn from this and next time call a cab or make sure you let the bartender know you're drinking alone.

It sounds to me like you just made a mistake in estimating what you can handle. Something which all of us with skinny bods fear.  :(

But I think you have a good compass are still lovable. You have guilt, which is a good thing when you know you know how to learn from it.

1) No one got hurt, so that's good.

2) You owned up to it and feel like shit so you won't do it again, that's good.

3) You made a mistake, everyone does in different ways in life all throughout their lives.  And learning from it is the important thing.  It's ok.

Bruh my sister had one about a year ago and it's still tied up in the courts.

No one here needs to beat you up about it because you show remorse and already have enough consequences to deal with.

Just learn from this mistake and move forward once this is past you.

When I get 6 beers in, I find a nice shot of tequila or vodka/redbull brings me out of my haze. Information for life.

Sorry about your incident, though. Hopefully the sting to your wallet will leave a lasting impression and you won't get popped again.

I don't drive so I can't fuck up but like everyone I've seen friends leaving parties with their car while drunk. There's always some unspoken uneasiness at the back of the mind but no one actually stands up to take their keys or something either.

You have the right attitude about this. No need to beat yourself down if you have learned your lesson.

Public trans is shit in most places and doesn't run late.

Taxis/Ubers are expensive.

How a lot of so called "living" areas are laid out is so awful.

Unless you want to go home when all the bars let out and get hit with a 3x surge. :goty

Oh I wasn't talking about suburbs. If you live in the suburbs, your life is fucked in a bunch of other ways anyways. As far as I'm concerned, if you live in a suburb you're no longer a functioning member of society and are better off by everyone pretending you don't exist.

A long time ago I drove home drunk once. It was really dumb. I got home safe but it was still stupid and my wife ripped me apart about it for a couple weeks. We make mistakes, you learn from it and move on. If I know I'm going to be driving, I have one to two beers max, or I get a ride home with someone who is sober.

In my ideal world there would be a row of pubs people can access by walking from their home. Suburbs are the worst. Need a car for every damn thing.

A friend of mine recently moved from Seattle out to the suburbs. This is killing him.

I'm very happy to have a ridiculous number of top notch craft beer places within a mile radius of my house. No need to drive.

My wife said the first time she was out in Boston for work and asked coworkers where they were going for happy hour... they all blankly stared at her...

At least there is a good reason for happy hour being banned in MA.

I feel like the late night T service precludes that, and while it's good they kept it going for at least another year they shrunk the hours which isn't a great sign.

We need to make 2am the endtime for every night of the week. 12:30 is ridic.

Having it be a statewide ban is pretty dumb though, imo. Wish Mayor Marty could steamroll it but instead it's up to that limpwrist Baker.

I can't hate too much, because the trial program cost $12.9 mil and they only made $2.1 mil, but that was in the midst of the worst winter of all time + the systematic failure of the entire MBTA.

I'm hopeful the cuts + more education that the program exists as a result of it existing for over a year + a not-as-horrible winter will make it closer to profitability this year.

On the other hand it can't really be examined at a micro level like this, because there's big positive macro effects like less damage from drunk drivers, fewer lost lives, fewer cars on the road, etc.

But of course, everyone outside of Boston in MA is against using highway taxes to subsidize the T.

BN, it sounds like a big reality check for you, and you're unlikely to do this again. You are earnest in your resolve, but be kind to yourself; people make mistakes and no-one was hurt this time.

The trains stop running in Tokyo at midnight (I've done the drunken mad rush to catch the final train before), so you're not alone.
Yeah, but in Tokyo you can also grab a cab, which drop to ½ price for anything over ¥5000 after 11PM, or just go to a capsule hotel, which provides a shower, pajamas, and a toothbrush in addition to a bed for ~¥4000/night (my favorite in Kyoto is only ¥1980). And then there are daiko services which will drive you AND your car home for not much more than the price of a taxi...

The only downside is that you'll wear the same clothes the next day. You can buy new socks and underwear in a convenience store, but that cigarette smoke inundated jacket and shirt are none-too-pleasant to wear on Day Two.

When I was in holding for my DUI I took a huge diarrhea shit and it was glorious. The toilet was behind a knee-high wall so I was just staring at everyone and flushing it over and over again laughing. Also I met some cool gangbangers who were caught selling drugs at the amusement park I now work at who had brands on their shoulders made from the caps of toothpaste tubes. Also met a cool guy who got brought in for smoking weed and only had a small roach left but the cop still brought him in. Also a hilarious drunk Hispanic dude who was here illegally and didn't speak English but laughed like hell. Good times. It wasn't bad at all. When I went home they put their nipples on the glass of the holding cell for me. I wrote down phone numbers to their families on a Styrofoam cup to call and let people know where they were and to sell shit to afford the bond to get out.

Sorry your DUI holding experience wasn't as fun as mine BrandNew.
