SJ had the best level design of any Megaten I've played. 4 was such a step down. 
To be fair, SJ was a straight up dungeon crawler so the dungeons had to be good! SMT4 was an overworld, cities, rpg thing, so they got away with really short 2-3 screen dungeons + a boss. The most disappointing part of SMT4 for me was when you started climbing the tower where the masked captives were being held and at first it felt like there'd be a real huge meaty tower dungeon...but then it was like 3 flights of stairs + 3 bosses and the dungeon was over. That and the kind of weak story for SMT my main complaints with 4, otherwise liked everything else. So hopefully this has better dungeons and story (though I'll be happy enough if it just has better dungeons).
