Ubisoft Montreal’s next Far Cry game is a Stone Age-era open world game called Far Cry Primal, and it launches for PS4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016. A PC release will follow in March, 2016.

Set in 10,000 BC, Far Cry Primal follows Takkar, "a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group." As players survive in the land of Oros, "they will have to craft weapons and tools partly from the bones of slain beasts, hunt for food, master fire, fend off fierce predators and face off against other tribes to conquer Oros."

Far Cry without guns? Hm. Tentatively excited.

I wonder if they constructed a language for this.

I was real sour when B.C. for Xbox got canceled. This reminds me of that 8)

Far Cry 3/4 were solid. I skipped a lot of the optional collect-a-thon type stuff, but I still sunk 30+ hours for each game.

FC4 was a little too similar to 3 though, so I'm glad they're mixing things up.

You have to fuck the bear in the second video to advance the story.

I think the setting is wonderful. Who doesn't want a game set in this time period.

I think the issue is that Ubi makes you fearful they won't really take advantage of the period and instead it will just feel like a Far Cry 3 or 4 mod.

Blood Dragon really went all in on its idea, and I loved that about it.

So I got Far Cry Primal through game share with a friend.

I like it so far. I like it for the very specific reasons of the time and setting compared to regular Far Cry games. It feels like this is kinda the way the series should have always been versus the guns aspect of the other games. Graphics are great. Probably the best representation of being out in the forest/jungle I've seen in a game.

It's still an ubisoft game and if you are tired of that formula this won't change your opinion. In fact it doubles down on most of those elements since the collectathon aspect revolving around collectiong plants and getting animal skins actually feels mandatory in this game versus being somewhat optional.

For whatever reason, I'm less bothered by it here than I was in the last two Far Cry games. Maybe because I can roleplay being a caveman needing to do this shit versus random dude just dropped into the jungle doing it for some reason.

Would this be a better game if some really creative developer used this setting and idea? Probably. But its fun enough for what it is. Probably not worth paying full price for though.

It's $39.99 on GMG. No idea if you can use the voucher on it too. (Probably not.)

$35.99 in the VIP thing.

I'm close to the end now, this is a very accurate assessment

The setting makes or breaks the game.  If one isn't interested in the stone age combat and hunting, stay far away.  The Ubisoft bloat is front and center with the lack of a real plot.  The atmosphere and setting are the saving grace.

I'd put it on par with FC4.  I'd be higher if they had kept the co-op from 4

Yep. Not sure why they don't commit to making these games full co-op experiences.
