Warhammer Nerd Fantasy: Vermintide (Left 4 Rats)
« on: October 19, 2015, 01:42:25 PM »
Anyone playing this shit?
It releases in full Friday and you can get it right now through Greenman Gaming for some $20.

Pretty fucking dope. Left 4 Dead (pretty much copy paste) style game with leveling and loot drops rats instead of zombies tho. Different classes with different mechanics. The beta right now only has 3 levels but it took up my weekend, full game has 10 more levels and a load of more loot apparently. Good shit.

OT: I still haven't played much of Mordheim so I won't be playing this for awhile.

Why is GW pumping out games like they're going out of business? Are people not buying thimbles of overpriced paint anymore? :doge

I picked it up and love it. There is already a thread though. I'll probably stream sometime later if anyone is interested in watching.

They patched out the "hide under the wooden scaffolding" bit today in the first level.
Still have the option of using a speed potion to jump across the final gap back into the area before and cheese it that way tho.

Well Fantasy's story concluded so it's something to keep visible while they figure out what to do with the setting.

They also felt THQ didn't exploit the license enough so no one gets exclusive licensing anymore. If you bring it they'll probably license it as long as you aren't rocking the boat. (They won't license my Canticle City dating sim / H-game.)

Also they pretty much have no shame.

didn't know THQ had exclusive rights. At least we got them relic games.

Would be nice if this deluge of games included some stranger shit than turn-based tactics and skirmish games. How about an Inquisitor adventure game or Gorkamorka racing game?  u kno, something else?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just 100% Warhammer is done so they don't care since its no longer competing. There will never be AoS games

Vanhelsing devs are making an inquisitor arpg http://www.pcgamer.com/inquisitor-martyr-is-a-promising-warhammer-40k-action-rpg/

EA held the Fantasy license during that same period. The (relatively) concurrent collapses of WAR and THQ led to the situation of today imo.

I'd love a Telltale-style Commissar Cain game myself. Unfortunately I think it's best to be realistic: Games Workshop sees games as gateway drugs for their tabletop products so they aren't going to look to branch out and the acquired taste of the IP means that game genres that are more development intensive will probably be very vanilla if or when they're made. A Spacey Hulk FPS (which is currently in development) is about as low risk as a 40K game gets.

I don't know about an H-Game but if you could get them to sign off on interactive fiction I bet I could get my bosses to go for it.

Of interest and relevance:

http://gamasutra.com/view/news/256220/QA_Why_Games_Workshop_is_shaking_up_how_it_works_with_licensees.php

When licensing we don't have those restrictions, so we can play with all the IP that we've created over the years, and we absolutely want to see massive space ship battles based on Battlefleet Gothic, or a gang warfare game based on Necromunda, maybe a crazy violent racing game based on Gorkamorka.
