Effective immediately we are suspending the publication of Grantland.  After careful consideration, we have decided to direct our time and energy going forward to projects that we believe will have a broader and more significant impact across our enterprise.

Was just going to post this. ESPN is seriously unable to come to grips with the cord cutting age.

Perhaps they should stop spending 1,200,000 to get the rights to the Idaho Potato Bowl and start investing in creating new ways to create revenue with the sports fan base?
YMMV

Is The Undefeated one of these projects?

They can only publicly execute Stephen A and Skip Bayless once, but they can rebroadcast that shit for all of eternity

I assure you 538 is done right after the election too.

As usual ESPN cuts the wrong part of their operation out.

Now ESPN can finally get back to covering sports like it was meant to be covered through properties such as SportsNation. Or His and Hers.

I'm glad they've all but eliminated written analysis on the main website outside of Insider. What kind of nutjob wants to read about sports? Three minute clips, interviews and faux-debates plz.

I wouldn't have seen this otherwise: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/post/_/id/14006960/kiss-make-clippers-put-steve-ballmer-mark-cuban-kiss-cam

Not surprising but very short sighted of them.

Now if only someone could work it out so that Bill Simmons could never write or put out a podcast again. Ideally without killing or maiming the dude.

Cowturd has been gone for a month; it's not because ESPN cares that he sucks as a commentator, but because his schtick was "say racist shit!" whereas Skip's is "say stupid shit!"

Actually Colin is gone from ESPN but you could substitute any number of awful names on their roster for his.

I didn't see that. I haven't been to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch in awhile which is where I could watch him talk to himself on mute for my whole meal.

That quote is blowing my mind. Sports IS pop culture. The ESPY's is a celebration of sports and it's effect on pop culture. One of their best radio shows, The Dan Lebatard Show, eschews sports in favor of pop culture almost daily.

I don't know why they can't just say that "it wasn't making money" and be done with it.

Skip > Simmons.

At least Skip doesn't force you to read a 5,000 word essay about some random 90's movie in order to get to some half-baked NBA analysis.

I just blocked you for this. I hope you fucking die in a fire for suggesting that skip > anyone. Bridge too far.

For anyone who isn't aware, Walrus hates Simmons simply because he wrote a positive article about Lebron, like, once or twice.

Who knows what was just said, other than that it was probably a bunch of bitter whining with the ultimate reasoning behind it being that Simmons has never sucked Kobe's overrated dick

In retrospect, the editorial exodus looks to have been more or less the end. One Grantlander says that no one knew the four editors were leaving to join Simmons until the day they left. That's because, another source says, Simmons has been warring with ESPN both by acting as a source for writer Jim Miller, and by more nefarious means.

While Grantland writers are on contract, editors are at-will. The four editors' exits were coordinated, and Simmons, according to this source, told the editors who jumped ship with him that a condition of their employment was that they couldn't warn anyone at ESPN they were leaving, in order to hit the site as hard as possible.

"He put his beef with [ESPN president John] Skipper above the jobs of dozens of people," one Grantland staffer said.

Simmons has spent more time sucking LeBron's cock than anyone not named BrandNew, Stoney Mason, or John Holllinger, but that has little to do with why I dislike him.

Page 2 was alive for 12 years.  :mindblown

Simmons was on there from 2001 until Grantland.
