Jade Empire was a good idea wrapped up in a bad game.

This. The art style and locations were great, not a bad cast either, but the combat was straight garbage [even back when it first came out]. With actually good combat, it could have been an all-time classic.

No it couldn't. The games issues go beyond its combat. For one thing it rushes towards the ending after a certain point. It's pretty clear the game wasn't even finished. Many of the plot lines are rushed, like the storyline line the male romance option. Characters had potential, but were ultimately sacrificed and fell flat due to a severe lack of content. The IGN review score makes that all the more obvious that bioware bought them out to prop up a half finished title. If I rememeber, the ending is literally just text. Also, the combat is still better than Kotor's. I ultimately liked the game more than KOTOR despite the flaws.
