Favorite piece of art?
« on: December 08, 2015, 11:28:27 AM »
Mine is an abstract painting, but yours can be whatever. Just post something that moves you.

Vassily Kadinsky - Composition 6

I have this print in my spare bedroom and I always see something new in it every time I look at it. Very relaxing.

I'm no art expert but this sculpture impressed me like no other:

Laocoön and His Sons - artist unknown, Vatican Museum

It was probably sculpted in the 1st Century B.C. but wasn't uncovered until the early 15th Century A.D. and changed Western art forever—Michelangelo was inspired by the impressive male figure and countless Christians artists have been inspired by the depiction of agony, often imitated in Passion pieces. The movement of the figures was lost to artists from then until the Renaissance. Like how did they forget to make it look like people were moving? And brah, Laocoön is looking thick, juicy, and tight for someone from the 1st Century B.C. I mean they didn't have steroids back then so how did they even know humans could look like this?

I like Rufus' pick though. That Goya stuff is disturbing and eerily modern.

Come & See by Klimov is probably the most intense film I watched. The trailer won't do it justice. Probably the only movie I would deem an essential viewing.

May be cheating to have two... but just one is so hard  :-\
Otherwise I would probably have chosen a painting. This version (There's 3 of 4 takes on this by different Flemish painters) of the Money changer and his wife by Marinus van Reymerswaele is one I have very fond of.

The woman is incredibly beautiful, lifelike and detailed, especially. Had the chance to see it up close too.

Come & See looks pretty interesting. I'll give it a watch.

It was published on DVD a few years back in several countries, so english subtitles and a decent master should be easy to find.
