My resolutions:

- Get my PE
- Start my masters of engineering in the fall
- Follow through on my two week trip to Spain (I'm going to buy the tickets tonight)
- Follow a strict budget, allowing me to increase my deposits into investments
- Spend even less time on the internet - unless it's to meet my other resolutions or if it is needed to get something done, I don't want to be spending any time online except maybe a couple hours a week
- Start learning the electric guitar - been casually researching this for the past couple months but it's time to do it or don't
- Simplify my life - purge all the unnecessary shit and things I don't want to do

Haha. I had almost identical resolutions last year as my current ones:

1) Be more diligent on my workouts and diet. Try to go up to at least 180 lbs. this year (at 155 lbs. currently).
2) Be more diligent on my blog, which at this point means making more than 4 posts per month.
3) Get a new or possibly additional job that would help me actually do something I want to as a career, not just a job.

And most important of all...

To actually fuck bitches with big tits this year. Thats my resolution as you can fucking seeeeeeeee

And I failed in every single one.

If you have difficulty sticking with the routine at the gym, get a different routine. My guess is you're doing mostly strength training. I suggest mostly aerobic exercise.

You're right, I am doing strength training, but that's cause I'm trying to gain mass. I still got a good way to go before I can even think about doing aerobic exercises.

I've been doing a lot lately so I don't think a resolution will help. But if I had to name one it'd be that I'm working on auditing my life. By that I mean I'm evaluating a lot of the crap I've done, gotten, kept and am thinking about the next stage of my life. I started doing this earlier this fall and it's been hard to let go of so much, but I've been happier with a lot of the baggage gone and out of my life than with it. I've got a good handle on what else I need to do to get on, but have hit some major roadblocks this year. Hopefully with those out of the way for the foreseeable future I can get to work on the bigger life goals I have.

I plan on seeing more concerts and comedians live this year too. Never really knew how much fun those types of things could be before this year.

- At least start taking piano lessons. (Ideally stick with them, but we'll see.)
- No more straight-up retweets on Twitter. Either quote the tweet or don't retweet it.

I actually went to the post office last year with all my stuff ready to get my passport, but they were half an hour from closing and gave me the shaft.

At least I got my MA State+Liquor ID last year. Got rejected from too many bars/clubs cause they didn't accept my CT State ID.

Also the Twitter one is a combo of me limiting myself, and also a realization that in general I think my small amount of followers want to read tweets from me and not random BS I happen to find interesting. Who knows, maybe it won't work out.

Are you using anything to help with this? I've had a Mint account for years but never did anything with it until a week ago. Went through and categorized/renamed all my transactions for the past four years, and set budgets for each category. I also have a Google Sheet with my budgets of course.

Best part of using Mint so far is the Transactions widget I added to my phone's homescreen. Hopefully I won't be surprised when things drain my bank account anymore.

It's been illuminating going through the categories and seeing just what I spend on certain things. In 2015 I apparently spent $1300 on bars and alcohol.  But that's like $25 a week. And last month I apparently spent over $100 at a quickie-mart next to my apartment.

But now I know. And knowing is half the battle!

Well restaurants and fast food adds another $1600 on that for the year. Not even counting groceries...

Yeah, even doing or month or two should be illuminating. I know it shocked me enough into making some changes.

There's You Need A Budget but the biggest drawback (and it's a huge one) is that you have to manually enter in the expenses.  If you can get over that hump, it's a great program and is usually heavily discounted during Steam sales.

I had a lot of problems with Mint: it kept losing some of my investments, 401k, etc.  Could have been an issue with investment sites itself but it was a pain in the ass to have to keep re-entering passwords or have passwords I know work come back and say that it didn't work.

I heard YNAB is switching to the Mint model this year or something. There was a big backlash on Reddit (I know.)

I'd be OK with entering stuff manually, but I'd probably lose interest in like February or something. Thing with Mint is even if I stop checking it it'll keep updating and stay mostly accurate.

I don't have Mint connected to anything other than my two bank accounts so I haven't seen those problems. The site in general feels pretty creeky and crufty, and while the Android app looks nice (full Material Design) it behaves wonkily pretty frequently. Going word is Intuit bought it then axed the team and haven't devoted any more resources to it, which seems right. It's a shame though, the site for TurboTax is pretty slick.
