Beat Axiom Verge

Solid game, very impressive for just being developed by one guy. Doesn't come close to Super Metroid in terms of level design though.

On normal it's a decent challenge, but doable. Definetely not NES hardcore difficulty. There is one annoying boss, was stuck on that one for half an hour. Overall playtime was 12:30, but I will spend a couple more hours to find most of the secret stuff.
Complexity is also finely tuned. There are a couple spots where you will be stuck but you normally won't have to consult a guide, at least as long as you'Re not going for 100%.

It's not a bad idea to keep notes of spots where you can't progress, otherwise you will spend some time running around and backtracking after you get the needed backups. I guess when I was a kid it was easier for me to remember spots like that ;-)

I've just finished Arkham Knight. Great game, the twist about AKs identity wasn't that surprising with all the foreshadowing but it's definitely a satisfying ending to the series. I still need to finish 90% of the Riddler trophies to get the final ending but they're not too bad.

I so do not want their next game to be Superman though. I just don't think you can make decent sidemissions with somebody who's nearly invincible against regular plebe criminals.

Beat the Halo 5 campaign on co-op with my nephew yesterday on heroic difficulty. Easily one of my favorite Halo campaigns.

I'm also a little more than halfway through Dragonball Xenoverse.

Finished Just Cause 3 (100%).

Also finished Axiom Verge on PS4. Will play again on Hard mode.

Yeah, really liked the function in the game where you can place two reminder markers per area on the map. That was really clever, I thought. Just sliiightly dumb that you can't remove them entirely once you've placed them.

Oh you can place two per area? Did not realize that, that makes them a lot more useful. Btw. i think you can remove them by "clicking" again on the same square.

€13 for Axiom Verge is a bit too pricey for me. I'll get it at some later point.

Dragon Quest Heroes (PS4) - I would consider it a middle tier Musou title.  I'm not a huge DQ nerd so I'm sure there was tons of fanservice that went over my head.  The game's biggest weakness is that it appears to be focused heavily on escort missions.  Like many games featuring escort missions, the people you're supposed to protect are the dumbest motherfuckers alive, running headlong into a huge group of enemies.  Like many Musou games, your team members will often stand with a thumb up their ass while you're fighting off a dozen monsters.  Lots of Rare style collectathon missions but you can assemble a ring that is more likely to get mini medals and then trade in mini medals for some of these hard to find items, creating a shortcut.  There are some challenging missions in the game and the game fortunately will let you keep the loot and experience if you fail out of a mission.  A 6.5/10 game.

€13 was the sale price. Now it's back to €18 again.

I have hundreds of games in my backlog and I don't mind waiting a few more months for it to drop to a lower price.

Wolfenstein: The New Order
Grabbed this on sale a while back after seeing some glowing praise from people who's tastes I respect. Wasn't expecting much, but this shit was a blast for the most part. It manages to ride the line between being campy and overly serious much better than I would expect from a game about Nazis taking over the world. Ending boss fight is awful though. Boss fights in general are a pretty tired concept but throwing a player in a room filled with environmental hazards and a bulletsponge is so fucking lazy that after I died twice I just ratcheted the difficulty down to zero and ran through it. After 11 hours of shooting dudes to death, the penultimate test of the game shouldn't be 'run around trying to find enough ammo to kill this thing before it kills you'.

Just Cause 3
A lot of fun but suffers from the exact same problems as JC2, albeit not as strongly. About midway in JC2 I got really burnt out, and the last half/third of the game just felt like a chore. I had a similar feeling in JC3 when the veneer of blowing shit up and zooming around kinda wore off, but the addition of extra tethers, the wingsuit, and some of the new weapons added enough variety to keep it from feeling too stagnant. The story is as silly as ever, but the VO is well cast and it's never too corny.

Pony Island

You're a trapped soul in a satanic video game that has the facade of kids game.  Solve some puzzles, beat some runner levels and get the fuck out.

It's only $5 and 2.5 hours long.  It's a cute novelty that sadly wears itself thin near the end.

7/10 wait for a Steam sale.

Framed

I think Kojima-san said this was one of his favourite games some year and it is a nice little puzzler for mobile. Its pretty short so it doesn't outstay its welcome which is important for mobile, and it can be played in very short bursts too.

The puzzles aren't hard but some will make you think and try just long enough so that this game doesn't turn boring or frustrating.

Really liked this game and played it on the hardest difficulty, which was challenging but fair. Last boss fight was bullshit though and the only time I had to lower the difficulty.

The Old Blood was more of the same, while offering less. Never really reached those same highs and if the main game was say a B+, the expansion was more like a C.

God tier combat

Mediocre everything else

Would buy the shit out of a sequel that added more meaningful content (actual quests would be nice ) and a better world (shit just give me a dozen BBIs and we're good).

Max Payne 3

Great third person shooter with amazing production values. Controls were very responsive and the gunplay was satisfying. I also really loved how varied the levels were. Fighting your way out of the Brazilian favela was  awesome.  That said, I am never going to replay it because someone at Rockstar thought interweaving the gameplay with cutscenes every couple of minutes would be a good idea. That completely killed any replayability the game might have had imo.

Not sure how well the game sold but I hope enough for sequel!

I also beat D3 Ultimate Evil edition on the ps4 last year. My only complaint was the difficulty as well. I leveled a Barb, A Wiz and a Crusader. Things really didn't get hard until Torment. great game otherwise. I think I prefer the console to the PC version. It just felt good to play with a gamepad.

MP3 probably sold a great number of units after all the super-cheap sales it has had. I think I bought the game and the season pass for a total of US$7 or 8. I don't think it sold nearly the amount Rockstar assumed it would, but a good portion of the work on the RAGE engine and networking code was most likely amortized into GTA V's core.

Absolutely loved it. It's Kojima through and through (I'm a big fan), and very ahead of its time with its subversiveness and production values (a LOT of spoken dialogue, some awesome cutscenes, and some absolutely gruesome pixel art). Terminator 2 is one of my favorite movies ever and it's a HUGE inspiration to this game, and cyberpunk is also my shit... It's got a bit of that Japanese Adventure game "investigate everything multiple times until a new option appears" logic and a few combat sequences that are like whack-a-mole but other than that I was absolutely hooked and could not put it down. Just check how badass the intro is:

Terminator 2 is one of my favorite movies ever and it's a HUGE inspiration to this game

Actually...Snatcher is from 1988.  Terminator 2 came out in 1991.  Cameron copied Kojima?   :o

I'm not a Koijma fan (like MGS1) but everything about Snatcher sounds right up my alley damn, always wanted to play it back in the day too, but Sega CD you know  :-\

Now that I got a working PS again after two months I'm sure I'll finish some games again, Uncharted 4 will prob be the first.

Snatcher is awesome and worth a play-through- It and MGS1 are my favorite Kojima games.  I couldn't get into its follow-up, Policenauts, however.

One day I'd like to play SD Snatcher.  I wonder if it ever got fan-translated...
