Life is Strange ending discussion (Spoilers)

I saved Chloe. The ending has a lot more emotional weight if Max finally uses her power to make herself happy, rather than feeling obligated to use it for good.

Actually, to clarify. She doesn't use her power at all to make herself happy, but a new leaf is probably turned over where she'll start to think about what she wants, rather than trying to fix everything.

Nice try Dontnod I didn't fall for your guilt trip in Max's nightmare.  :wag

Both endings are kinda shit.  The tornado being Max's fault is illogical and making her a scapegoat is mean spirited.  This video does an excellent job critiquing the endings

I killed Chloe.

I disagree with you, throughout the entire game she's used user powers a ton for her own benefit, hell she used them several times to save Chloe's life.

Using her powers to do something she doesn't want to do was far more emotionally resonant and had a bigger punch for me.

I debated saving Chloe but in the end I couldn't save one person and condemn a whole bunch of other people.

I didn't watch the other ending yet, but does saving Arcadia Bay mean none of the weird environmental things happen? That's a huge plot hole if true. Max went to alternate dimensions and the environmental things were still occurring, why would going back in the past (start of the week) revert shit if going to entirely new realities doesn't revert those things?

I killed Chloe.

I'd agree in the sense that helping others makes her feel better.

But she never outright uses her powers for self serving reasons, up until the ending she saves Chloe... to save Chloe. She didn't understand she was fucking with time (in a physics sense) and everything else to a certain point, so saving Chloe in situations of peril seemed like the most natural thing to do.

She rarely "plays" around with her power for selfish reasons. The ending to me where she decides to be selfish and be with Chloe, here and now, above all else, makes that relationship seem incredibly special. That's fucked up, but I feel Max has earned that.

Max has seen what existence can look like, from all types of angles. If being happy now, in what time she exists, is possible, its worth it.

I just beat the game and chose to save Arcadia Bay at Chloe's urging, feeling like shit the whole time. It works because

spoiler (click to show/hide)
She travels to right before the very first time she uses her powers, and chooses not to use them, undoing all damage she caused from time traveling because she chooses not to use her powers.

I just finished the game and I just let Chloe die. I didn't really like her as a character, her hipster punky 'too cool for school' attitude never sat right with me, though I did end up liking some of the townspeople after a while.
